Dear colleagues,

On April 4, 2023, 30 streets in Ivanivka, Horodeshchyna, Marivka, and parts of Krasnotorka districts in Kramatorsk city were flooded by the Bychok river following a collapse of a water discharge mechanism on a local pond. As a result, an uncontrolled flow of water flooded nearby private residential buildings. The dam was likely damaged by a heavy snowfall observed over the last week, possibly in combination with general poor condition and potentially the impact of shelling.

As of the evening of April 4, water had reached the window-level of affected houses and was still rising. Local authorities shared with IOM that around 260 houses were affected by the flood, with the majority constituting private houses. The exact number of residents affected is not yet known.

A flash alert update on the situation and humanitarian needs of those affected can be found here

Subsequent flash alert updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
