Caring Notes ...
  • Leon Neher, Sarah Neher's grandfather, had an unexpected heart attack last week. He is still hospitalized and fighting a blood infection. Prayers are welcome for her grandfather and the whole family as they navigate this uncertain time.
  • Let's remember in prayer the congregation of Argentine Mennonite Church (Metropolitan Ave in KCK). They have come to the decision that they will not continue as a congregation. What happens to their building, parsonage and long legacy remains to be seen. We will share more information as it becomes available. For now, they welcome our love and prayers as they mark this ending and imagine the new beginning this may bring forth.
  • Let's join together in loving prayer for and with Bob and Phyllis Carlson, as Phyllis continues receiving Hospice Care at home.

Holy Week
  • We are planning a Maundy Thursday service, including communion, on Thursday, April 6 at 6:00pm. We will share a meal of soup, bread, and fruit. All are invited to participate in this Lenten observance. It would be helpful for meal planning to RSVP here.
  • For those who would like a quiet space to observe Good Friday (April 7) the sanctuary will be open from 9 am-3 pm. There will be candles and materials available for quiet meditation.
  • All are invited to a zoom-based Good Friday gathering with area Mennonites from Salina, Manhattan, Topeka and Lawrence on April 7 at 7 pm. Click here for the zoom link.
Easter Sunday:
  • Worship Service: Offered in the sanctuary at 9:30 AM and by livestream on YouTube. View here or click the photo above to watch.
  • Community Building Time in the Fellowship Hall: at 10:30 AM
  • Faith Formation Hour: at 10:50 AM

This Easter Sunday, April 9, for those participating via livestream, if you have a joy or concern you would like shared with the gathering, please email or contact Ruth Harder by 8 am Sunday morning (913.333.2605). The scripture focus will be on Matthew 28:16-20.

Congregational Highlights

Choir menu for Wednesday, April 5th: Baked Potatoes

EASTER EGG HUNT is on! The Outreach Committee will host the annual Easter egg hunt in Whitmore Park on April 8th at 10:30 am.  Last year we passed out almost 1000 eggs plus candy and toys. We are hoping for a bigger turnout this year. We can always use some volunteers, both adults and middle school and high school ages. If you want to help or volunteer, please contact Keith Jantz by voice mail or text at 816-210-6625.

CHILDREN'S BOOKS NEEDED!  Once again, children attending the Easter Egg Hunt will have the opportunity to choose a book to take home with them. We are asking for donations of gently used or new books. Please bring them to church and place them in the marked bin in the Wesley Room before April 8. Thank you in advance.

Recycling- The church will be modifying how we handle recycling products in the building. The small blue bins located around the church will be used for paper only. We ask the congregation to recycle any cardboard, aluminum and plastic products in the labeled bins located under the cabinets in the Rainbow room off the kitchen. Thank you!

College Care Packages: It's hard to believe we are nearing the end of another school year! We are sending college care packages to our students as they finish their semester. Boxes are set up in the fellowship hall for you to add your small nonperishable items to the packages. We have 12 students this year. For a list click here. Deadline to contribute is April 16.

Latin Jazz Orchestra Concert: Save the date for a concert in the church. As part of our outreach effort into the community, the Outreach Committee and the Rainbow Performing Arts Committee will be hosting a live concert by the KC Latin Jazz Orchestra in the sanctuary on May 20th at 7:00 pm. This will be a free concert open to the public.

Our spring congregational meeting is scheduled for Sunday, May 7, following the second hour. More details will be forthcoming.

A once in a 500-year opportunity! We at Rainbow have the unique opportunity to participate in a project called, "The Anabaptist Community Bible." Sponsored by Menno Media, this is one of many projects/initiatives underway as Mennonites approach the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism (1525-2025).

Organizers of this "Anabaptist Community Bible" divided the entire Bible into 500 clusters of scripture and these were then assigned to church groups in the order groups registered. Now that scripture texts have been assigned to Rainbow (Isaiah 10:20-34, Isaiah 11, Isaiah 12, Isaiah 13; 1 Corinthians 6; Psalm 38:1-11), it's time to join together in studying and reflecting.

Here are two options:
1) In-person during Adult Ed hour on Sundays (Sunflower Room):
April 16 (Intro), April 23 (Isaiah texts), April 30 (1 Corinthians), May 7 (Psalms)

2) Online Bible Study on Mondays at 5 pm (zoom):
April 17 (Intro), April 24 (Isaiah texts), May 1 (1 Corinthians), May 8 (Psalms)

*We ask that you commit to attending each of the four sessions (either online or in person or a combination of the two).
