How Humility Conserves Your Energy

Dear Reader

We finally reached the end of our journey discovering the 10 energy disciplines as described by Gino Wickman in his book The EOS Life. Today we're speaking about the 10th principle, which is "Be humble".

How does humility help you to save time and save energy? Whether you're humble or arrogant doesn't really make a difference on how successful you can be. You can be very successful if you're arrogant, but what he says, is what I have discovered: the journey of life is better if you're humble.

There is a universal law, that 'boomerang', 'karma', whatever you call it - being humble in life attracts more humble people to you, leads to more happiness, friends, and people that want to fight for you and be with you.

So it's really important that you attract people into your life by being humble; people who will support you, surround you, help you forward and in the process, you'll save your energy, you'll save time, you'll have a much better life.

What does it mean to be humble? Being humble doesn't mean 'to be weak'. It doesn't mean that you cannot show up with confidence. As Rick Warren said (quoted in the book): "Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less". You think of the other people, you want to be better, you want to serve. That's really important.

A healthy tool here to think about is - if you've got the spectrum of being highly arrogant on the one side and really humble on the other side - is the humility-arrogance spectrum. Think of where you show up on this spectrum. Are you arrogant? Or are you humble? A good experiment you can conduct is to ask five people that you love, or five people who are really important in your life, to place you on that spectrum. That will give you some feedback, and you'll be able to think about, am I showing up the way that I should be showing up?

What I really love it is that in Eos, we made this one of the core values. In EOS we speak about 'humbly confident'. It means that I'm showing up with confidence, I'm taking the space, but I'm humble and I'm focused on the other people and I'm there to serve.

Hopefully this is helpful. This concludes our little series on the 10 energy disciplines. I really recommend you read the book The EOS Life and much better still, make that part of your life; you'll have a rich fulfilling life.

Until next week.
