UN 2023 Water Conference - Towards a renewed water governance that protects our biodiversity and water ecosystems
The UN 2023 Water Conference in New York culminated with a breakthrough response to the global water crisis, with national governments, regional and local governments, businesses and civil society committing to advance the water agenda. Co-hosted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Republic of Tajikistan, the Conference gathered 10,000 participants at UN Headquarters and online from 22 to 24 March 2023, to urgently scale up action to address the water crisis and ensure equitable access to water for all. |

| Local and regional governments call for managing water as a common good
Throughout the LRG day and the ensuing official sessions, local and regional governments addressed the importance of guaranteeing water as a human right, which implies revisiting the management of the commons and ensuring communities are included in the global decision-making processes.
GTF networks addressed the importance of strengthening the role of associations to empower cities and regions in water management, in particular to ensure the delivery of water services. |

The Feminist Municipal Leadership at the CSW67 - Towards caring territories and digital rights for all
Among other events, the constituency participated in the Local and Regional Governments Day and two CSW NGO Parallel sessions. In the week to follow, the voices of the constituency of local and regional governments will be further amplified in the General Discussion as well as the Interactive Dialogue on the priority theme, which take place within the UN Headquarters. |

At the Cities Summit of the Americas, GTF networks stress the need to listen to cities and foster investment to address the current context of overlapping crises
The different networks composing the organized constituency of local and regional governments gathered around the Global Taskforce had a leading role in the I Cities Summit of the Americas, a flagship event hosted by the US State Department and the city of Denver that brought together Mayors and stakeholders from the whole Western Hemisphere. |

Our members gathered together in an annual meeting to discuss the achievements of the past year and to define the messaging and the strategy for the coming year, including the participation of the GTF in major international events as well as other opportunities for the group to push for the seat of the local and regional governments at the table with decision-makers. |

The Platform on High-Impact for Localization Policies shows our impact of localization at the SDG Summit |
The Platform was launched in the framework of the UCLG Retreat 2023 on February 22. This is a tool to collect localization initiatives and projects to be showcased at the United Nations SDG Summit in September 2023. The platform will be a repository of high-impact policies that supports the localization of the 2030 Agenda and will serve as a blueprint to achieve the SDGs. |

The High-Level Meeting on the mid-term review of the Sendai Framework will be held in New York on May 18-19. The meeting will be important in realizing the outcomes and targets of the Sendai Framework, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement on Loss and Damage and other agreements, frameworks and conventions, including the migration agenda, as well as with the implementation of the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative.
Our constituency will have the opportunity to participate in high-level dialogues on disaster management and risk governance, as well as on localizing disaster risk reduction among others. |

The second session of the Habitat Assembly will be held from 5 to 9 June 2023 at the headquarters of UN-Habitat in Nairobi, Kenya. You can find more information and the draft program here. On Thursday 8 in the morning will be the space dedicated for us to convene the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, as well as the session on Localization (which will have finance as a special theme). |

The UITP Global Public Transport Summit is taking place from 4-7 June in Barcelona. The theme of the summit is “Public transport is the ‘Bright light of the city’”. |

The 2023 Urban 20 (U20) Summit will be taking place in Ahmedabad from 7-8 July 2023. The U20 seeks to coordinate a joint position among the mayors of both G20 and non-G20 major cities, to inform and nurture the discussions of national leaders at the G20. |

The 6th Local and Regional Government Forum will be held. It has been confirmed that it will take place as an official face-to-face special event within the framework of HLPF 2023 at the UN Headquarters in New York on July 12 from 10:00-13:00 EST. The agenda for the forum and updates on logistics and speaker appointments will be communicated shortly. |
