Chase Away the May Grey
With the approach of summer our special events program offers something exceptional almost every weekend.

May 6 is packed full of exciting opportunities to enjoy a visit, Open Studios is your invitation to explore the site and visit with 36 artists in residence. We have a family workshop in the Gallery with Maria Adela Diaz at 11am and at 7:30 pm a performance by world renowned comedy magician Shawn McMaster.

Shawn is a veteran of LAs Magic Castle, a glove trotting performer and an astonishing magician with a wicked sense of humor. This is one show not to be missed.
 
We are delighted to be launching our Films in the Gallery series on May 20, with a presentation of Peter McDowell's Jimmy In Saigon. Our film series will be a very special program of curated films, selected in response to the themes of the exhibition and featuring talks by director's, actors and producers. Jimmy in Saigon will be introduced by director and producer Peter McDowell.  You can watch the trailer for this award winning documentary here.

In our ongoing efforts to support schools and our local educators, we are excited to invite you to an exclusive evening in the Blackboard Gallery.

Come and mingle with colleagues, grab a bite to eat, view the current exhibition and make some art! Complimentary light refreshments, art-making activity led by a professional artist, and affordable no host bar. Early registration is recommended as space is limited.

The evening is funded by generous donations to our Education Department and is free to educators.

Visit this month's Featured Artist, Painter, Elana Kundell in her studio A1

Elana's artwork has been exhibited at the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) Artists Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, CA for the Fresh! Art Auction, the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and in galleries in the United States and in Korea. She has received grants including a residency at the Vermont Studio Center and three Ventura Music Festival commissions. Her artwork resides in numerous private collections in the United States and abroad.

The art studios are open to the public every first Saturday of the month and by appointment. As many as 40 of the areas very best artists welcome visitors into their studios to watch them create sculptures, paintings and multimedia pieces up-close and personal.

"Resonance", a group exhibition, features members of the Santa Barbara Printmakers. The Santa Barbara Printmakers (SBP) is a group of artists dedicated to creating and presenting prints that are made using hand and press printing techniques: etching, drypoint, monotype, mono print, woodblock, collagraph, linocut, clay, lithography, serigraphy, transfer, and digital programming.

Propose an Exhibit

Studio Channel Islands Art Center is currently seeking proposals for solo, group, and curated exhibitions. Established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply.

All visual arts media are eligible for consideration. Artists 18 years or older may apply. Proposals may be submitted by individual artists, artist representatives, groups, cooperatives, and curators. All work must be original and for sale.
