Do Good All Year! Become a Monthly Donor

The goal of the Do Good All Year campaign is to encourage at least 180 book and comic lovers from across the country to join Binc’s monthly sustaining donors.

“Every donation adds up when we give together as a community to help those booksellers and comic retailers facing emergency situations like moving from living in their car to sleeping in their own stable housing or to receiving immediate life-saving mental health treatment," said Pam French, Binc's executive director.

Right now Binc’s program manager is receiving over 20 calls a week from bookstore and comic shop employees and owners who need vital financial and mental health assistance. These calls for financial assistance represent a 60% increase compared to 2019, which means the support for their safety net needs to grow too. The Do Good All Year campaign will help to ensure that no eligible individual is turned away from receiving life-changing help and resources from Binc when they need it most.

Thank you for being the quiet heroes that ensure the strength of Binc's safety net!

You Are Giving Peace of Mind

In this month's story, read about one of the people you are helping as a monthly donor.

A routine exam led to tests, then a biopsy with a devastating cancer diagnosis, and soon a surgery with no guaranteed results. With no extended family to offer support the bookseller didn’t know where to turn for help. They called Binc.

And almost immediately Binc’s program manager started to help. Together they talked about the bookseller’s situation, a personalized plan was created, and help was on the way: mental health support, information on mediating medical bills and navigating doctor appointments, and an application for financial assistance.

When you become a monthly donor you help ensure Binc is here to take these calls, every month, every day. Become a monthly donor today!

Happy Independent Bookstore Day!

We couldn't agree more with this year's Bookstore Day Ambassador, and our friend, Celeste Ng, when she says, "In an increasingly impersonal world, independent bookstores are an antidote to feeling disconnected and dehumanized. Let's make sure they not only survive, but thrive."

If you need to find a participating store, check out the map of the more than 1,000 stores throwing Bookstore Day parties, https://www.indiebound.org/independent-bookstore-day/map

Have a wonderful Bookstore Day!

Program Update

Congratulations to this year's DPI Scholarship Winner!

Lily Huang has been awarded a scholarship to attend the Denver Publishing Institute this summer. Huang is a bookseller at The Seminary Co-op Bookstore & 57th Street Book in Chicago, IL. This scholarship is a collaboration with the Binc Foundation, Sourcebooks, and the Denver Publishing Institute; it includes tuition, room and board, and up to $2000 to cover travel and replacement wages.

Dominique Raccah, the Publisher and CEO of Sourcebooks and the scholarship’s major sponsor, said, “The DPI program has always had a very special place in my heart. For years, my husband and I would drive from Chicago to Denver to participate as publishers, and I know from experience that this is a truly important program that engages and ignites the future of the publishing industry. Everyone at Sourcebooks is honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with our dear friends at Binc on this joint scholarship, and we’re thrilled to be part of a book lover’s career journey!”
