The Fourth Sunday of Easter

A message from Fr Ian Eglin

This Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Easter, is also called Vocation Sunday. Each one of us is called to use our gifts and talents to the glory of God. Archbishop Justin Welby writing about Vocation Sunday 2023 says: “there is no greater joy in life than to follow Christ. Following Christ is embarking on a journey, and listening to the promptings of the spirit, in prayer, scripture and through our brothers and sisters in Christ, so that we discover and grow into our calling. God calls all of us to be disciples and to be the church and we hold this call in common. But God also calls us by name: specifically, individually, uniquely.“

This is what we mean by vocation. So this week we are invited to consider what God is calling me to do for the family of God in Christchurch. Maybe you have been resisting God’s call to serve him for sometime, maybe more recently it has been a clear call to offer some gift or talent . This is the week we are all asked to reflect on our vocation. All of us at Christchurch are looking forward to the appointment of a new Chaplain. As we pray about the right person coming forward to answer the call to be the chaplain, this is a good time to consider our specific call to serve God in this place. We all have a ministry.

As the prophet Isaiah says: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.”
How are you going to respond to that call?

I wish you a good week in the service of the Lord.

This week's service will be led by Fr Ian Eglin.
