Bernard et Thierry Glantenay
Well made Volnay is surely the sweetest
spot for value on the entire Cote d'Or
"This under-the-radar estate comes warmly recommended" -William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
We have just received our annual allocation of Bernard & Thierry Glantenay's 2020's.

We are able to offer them alongside a small allocation of recent back-vintages; all are in stock.

"As I wrote last year, the disarmingly modest Thierry Glantenay produces a lovely range of elegant, pure and intense Volnays and Pommards at his hillside winery overlooking the Marquis d'Angerville's Clos des Ducs...His 2018s have turned out very well, delivering generous, textural wines that remain structurally refined and lively—wines that will drink well young but also age gracefully. This under-the-radar estate comes warmly recommended...I'd nominate these 2019s as Glantenay's finest vintage since 2015, and they are very promising wines that still carry a much more modest tariff than a number of producers who don't work as well in the vineyards or the cellar." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Volnay Clos des Chenes 2020
$125 per bottle
(92-94) points Wine Advocate: "Aromas of dark fruits, licorice, cherry preserves, sweet soil tones, petals and spices introduce Glantenay's 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, a full-bodied, rich and concentrated wine that's the fleshiest and ripest of any cuvée in the cellar this year. For power and texture, it stands out, even if it can't quite match the finesse and incipient complexity of the Regions and Caillerets."

Volnay Les Caillerets 2020
$140 per bottle
(93-95) points Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is beautiful, bursting from the glass with scents of rose petals, peonies, blood orange and spices mingled with sweet red berries and plums. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and sensual, with melting tannins, lively acids and a seamless, elegant profile, it's exquisitely balanced at around 13% alcohol."

Pommard Sausilles 2020
$120 per bottle
(92-94+) points Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Pommard 1er Cru Les Saussilles is another notable success. Exhibiting aromas of sweet red berries, warm spices, forest floor and woodsmoke, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with lively acids and a long, saline finish."

Volnay Santenots 2020
$110 per bottle
(92-94) points Wine Advocate: "Glantenay has been paying very close attention to timing the date of harvest for this bottling, and the results really show in the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots, a medium to full-bodied, velvety wine evocative of cherries, blackberries, rose petals, sweet soil tones and burning embers. Layered and lively, it's seamless and complete, numbering among the high points of this year's portfolio."

Volnay Brouillards 2020
$89 per bottle
(91-93) points Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards is promising, mingling aromas of cherries, berries and plums with hints of rose petals, orange rind and spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's lively and seamless, with powdery tannins and a saline finish."

Volnay VV 2020
$70 per bottle
(89-91) points Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Volnay Village wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, dark berries, sweet spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and succulent, with melting tannins and a saline finish, it includes roughly one-third premier cru fruit."

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2020
$40 per bottle

Volnay Brouillards 2019
$75 per bottle
(91-93) points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards is showing very well, bursting with notes of smoky berry fruit, plums and spices. Medium to full-bodied, gourmand and enveloping, with fine tannins and lively acids, it's a touch more dynamic than the similarly sensual 2018 rendition."

Volnay Santenots 2018
$75 per bottle
(91-93) points Wine Advocate: "One of the more structured cuvées in the cellar is the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots, a broad-shouldered wine that offers up aromas of ripe plums, raspberries, orange rind and warm spices. It has a medium to full-bodied and ripe but lively palate, its fleshy core of fruit framed by youthfully chewy tannins. This will require some patience, but it's promising."

And the flagship white, Puligny Folatieres at amazing prices for this illustrious vineyard.

Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 2020
$120 per bottle
(90-92) points Vinous: "The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru, matured in 25% new oak, has pretty, fragrant nose with traces of yellow flowers (dandelion) and touches of red apple. Maybe it just needs a little more mineralité? The palate is quite concentrated on the entry, fine depth matched with a silver bead of acidity. The finish demonstrates some good extract with a touch of stem ginger on the aftertaste. Very fine. (Drink between 2024-2038)"

Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 2019
$99 per bottle
(91-93) points Jasper Morris: "From the upper part of the vineyard, purchased in 1979 from Roland Thevenin. Medium colour, with a sweetly ripe nose and some flesh, held in place by just enough reductive character. Thierry prefers later picking for his white wine, to be sure of phenolic ripeness. Delicious with a light peach touch."

Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 2018
$99 per bottle
(90-92) points Vinous: "The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru, which was picked September 5, has a well-defined bouquet of yellow flowers mixed with citrus fruit and orange blossom. The palate is spicy on the entry, offering ginger and lemongrass notes, impressive depth and good salinity toward the finish. A richer take on Folatières, but I think it works well. (Drink between 2022-2038)"
