1. Participatory Budgeting Updates
I am excited to announce the winning projects of Participatory Budgeting next week. We did receive an update from the Speaker's Office that over 4,000 votes were cast in our District this year which is a new record. Furthermore, District 5 had the second most votes of all the 29 Districts who participated. I am thrilled at the robust community engagement over the Participatory Budgeting Vote Week and look forward to sharing the winning projects that will be receiving capital funding.
2. It's My Park Day Cleanups
Our District ranks 47th out of 51 across the City in terms of open space so it's critical to make the most of the Park space we have. That is why I funded and am co-sponsoring "It's My Park Day" cleanups with the City Parks Foundation. The cleanups are on Saturday at 10am at Samuel Seabury Playground on 95th Street and Lexington and then on Sunday at 10am at St. Catherine's Park on 68th Street and 1st Avenue. Both the cleanups run until 1:00pm.
3. Earth Day Weekend Events Across the District
Over the weekend, three wonderful Earth Week events will be taking place at Parks across the District. See below for more details on these events.
4. Curb Your Dog Design Campaign
One of the top complaints we receive from constituents is the proliferation of dog waste across city streets. To that, we've been conducting a contest across the District for a design for a new poster design and slogan encouraging individuals to pick up after their dog. The deadline to submit designs is tomorrow and encourage interested constituents to submit. I look forward to announcing the winner soon.
5. John Jay Park Spring Family Day
We'll be sponsoring another Parks Department Family Day this year at John Jay Park. Please see some more information below for an afternoon of family fun and games!
6. St Catherine's Park Movie Under the Stars
This spring, our Parks Department Movie Under the Stars series will resume starting in St. Catherine's Park with a screening of Dune. Please see below for more information!
7. Street Co-Naming for Patrolman John Flood
The 19th Precinct reached out to my office months ago requesting a co-naming of the SE corner of East 77th Street and York Avenue to honor fallen Officer, Patrolman John Patrick Flood. Patrolman Flood was killed tragically in the line of duty in 1917 at 502 East 77th Street while attempting to resolve a domestic dispute. It's great that we can honor him and his sacrifice with this co-naming next month at that very corner.
8. Community Board 8 Spring Art Show
Community Board 8 has put out a call for its Spring Art Show which will be on June 17th at James Cagney Place. There's still 2 weeks left to submit and you can see more info:
