Welcome to the new Port Book and Newsletter, where we will pass along some friendly book-related vibes every month. There will always be more to talk about then we can actually fit! Great stuff comes out in the spring… flowers, warmer weather, and a lot of books that we're excited about. First Test: Book 1 of the Protector of the Small Quartet

Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors. Her medieval fantasy novels were some of the first to really grab my imagination as a young person and they fueled my burgeoning passion for books. If you like a determined main character who cannot stand a bully, a bit of magic, some animal friends, and a realist base for a fantasy world, please try this wonderful book!

First Test is book one in the Protector of the Small Quartet and the start of the third series set in the realm of Tortall. You do not have to start with the first book in the first series for this world to make sense and capture your imagination. However, characters from the previous series do make an appearance as side characters who have become legends in their own right. If you do enjoy this book, please consider trying all the rest!
