TONIGHT: Dinner & Discussion, "Modern Extremism and the Medieval World"

Friday, April 21, 6pm-7:30pm, Bethe Dining

Join Bethe Guest-in-Residence Sammy Rangel (a leading deradicalization expert and co-founder of Life After Hate), the directors of the Medievalist Toolkit, and other distinguished visitors.

Mischaracterization of the Middle Ages is rampant not only in movies and games but also in extremist ideologies where it is often used to justify utter violence. All Bethe residents are invited to join us at a reserved table to learn more about how scholars and public-facing professionals can work together to depoliticize uses of the medieval past and its legacy by providing public-oriented tools that encourage evidence-based discourse.

Rithmomachia: A Battle of Numbers

Tuesday, April 25,
8:30pm-10pm; Bethe Dining

First attested in the eleventh century, the two-player game pits two armies of numbers against each other, each angling to ambush the other and take control of its territory. Come play as many or as few games as you'd like on 3d-printed game sets that replicate an early modern source. Test your arithmetical mettle in an epic battle of numbers while enjoying donuts and snacks!

Socially Just Leadership Development: Restorative Practices in Social Justice

Wednesday, April 26
7:30pm-8:30pm; HP Apartment (Bethe 125)

Join Rose House Asst. Dean Jeff Godowski for an introduction to the concepts of Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices, the historical contexts of RP/RJ within justice work, indigenous roots of these practices, and connections to anti-oppression frameworks. Attendees will engage in circle conversations about their own social justice journeys and commitments for future action and social change.

Poster Making Session for "Take Back the Night" with URF Olivia

6pm-7:30pm; Bethe Common Room (235)

Open to all members of the Cornell and Ithaca Community. Join us to create posters in preparation for Take Back The Night!

Make a Night Light From A Gourd

7pm-9pm, Bethe Common Room

Join Graham Ottoson, of Gourdlandia, for this fun project. You'll start with a gourd that's cleaned and shined and fitted with a switch... all that's needed are the holes. That's where you come in! Use mini drills to make any design of your choosing, and dazzle it up with beads if you wish.

Will be limited to 20 people. Seniors will have a chance to sign up first and any remaining spots will be offered to rest of Bethe on April 24.

Reasons to call the GRF On-Call: lockouts after hours, neighbors are being noisy during quiet hours (sounds like a party), the electricity went out in your room, and other similar concerns that cannot wait until the House Office is open again.

Do not call the GRF On-Call to pick up a package from the House Office, to let your friend(s) into the building, or for anything that can wait until the House Office is open.
