From the dawn of the classic debut album, Netherstorm, in 2018, Finland's VARGRAV have almost single-handedly reinvigorated the oft-maligned symphonic black metal subgenre. Forged in fires from the ancients - founder V-Khaoz's credentials are vast and stretch back decades - and stoking the embers last left by Obtained Enslavement and Norway's Covenant and Odium, VARGRAV's two albums to date stand as proud pillars of shimmering, classics-based obsidian.

Now, in anticipation of VARGRAV's forthcoming third album, Nighthold, the band will release a maxi-single titled Encircle the Spectral Dimension. With a lineup that now includes the notorious Graf Werwolf von Armageddon on vocals, VARGRAV's swirling, cosmic surge has never been more potent, as poignantly displayed by the title track "Encircle the Spectral Dimension," which will also feature on said third album. The next two tracks on the CD version are The Glory of Eternal Night EP, which was previously only released as a bonus 7" with the vinyl version of Netherstorm. These two tracks are actually VARGRAV's very first recording - and of course, "Ancient Queen" is an Emperor cover. The concluding track is a live version of "Netherstorm" from the band's debut performance at Steelfest 2019. With mastering courtesy of Trollhouse Audio (and remastering of the two EP tracks there), Encirlce the Spectral Dimension is a mandatory short-length for stargazers and dream warriors!

WEREWOLF RECORDS is proud to present SORGETID's striking debut album, Natt av Tusen Dödsfall, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. Pressed on red and black vinyl.

SORGETID exclusively play Nordic black metal, from Finland. The name SORGETID may be new, but the creator behind it isn't: Finnish underground veteran V-Khaoz, renown for such bands as VARGRAV, DRUADAN FOREST, GRIEVE, and EMBRYONIC SLUMBER among many others, stretching back to the late '90s. With SORGETID itself, V-Khaoz indeed delves even deeper (and earlier) into the '90s, presenting vintage obsidian, both style- and production-wise, that respects the now-ancient time when black metal was only made by individuals who were truly dedicated to it. "In my reality, no other kind of black metal exists," he firmly states.

Truly, the evidence is there with SORGETID's first public recording, the full-length Natt av Tusen Dödsfall. Endearingly and engagingly familiar yet done with the deft nous for which V-Khaoz is known, SORGETID's first salvo is based purely on intuition and the man's need "to get quite old stuff out of my head - no future, no past." Existing within those reverently stringent boundaries, Natt av Tusen Dödsfall unveils a landscape rife with melancholy and madness, nostalgia and nightsky mysticism, fury and wonder woven together with elder chainmail forged in the fires of olde. Eight songs across 37 minutes are more than sufficient to paint the atmospheres and sensations that seemingly exist out of time. The album's no less raw nor polished than it needs to be; rather, it IS, unyielding and undying.

No references required here - as ever, V-Khaoz's work stands tall on it its own - but for those who still hold dark medieval times in their hearts, SORGETID's Natt av Tusen Dödsfall poignantly offers a portal to those glorious times.

WEREWOLF RECORDS is proud to present the surprise second album of Finland's GRIEVE, Wolves of the Northern Moon, on CD and vinyl LP formats. LP out late 2023.

It was but 2020 when GRIEVE emerged from the darkness with their self-titled debut EP. Although otherwise meant to exist strictly in that darkness, it was soon discerned that the band included veritable Finnish black metal royalty within its ranks. Nevertheless, the swiftly uncompromising nature of Grieve was felt: Northern Black Metal Exclusively From the 1990s. No more, no less, no progression, no fun.

And then, at the dawn of 2020 came GRIEVE's first - and, at the time, final - album. Aptly titled Funeral, the record was a fiercely focused one, solely featuring funereal marches by V-Khaoz and last rites by Werwolf. Beyond cold, utterly grim, violent and restrained simultaneously, Funeral was a record out of time, one where the last couple decades of "black metal" never existed. And then GRIEVE ceased to exist.

But, obeying only nature and will, GRIEVE have arisen from their own self-imposed grave with the second full-length Wolves of the Northern Moon. "We said we’d end the project for good, but we lied," state the band about that grave. "We exhumed it." Indeed, the exhumation also includes a nastiness last found on such Nordic classics as Kronet til konge, Pentagram, Til evighet..., or even Black Thrash Attack. Essentially, then, GRIEVE's ethics have not changed (nor should they have to), but one can nonetheless find here a pronounced asskicking sensibility that adds further antagonization to trendy ears as well as a noble march to mystical victories. "Eternal Winter, Eternal War": These Wolves of the Northern Moon are on the hunt - and you're next!
