The new Le Meridien in Melbourne [Schuetz/2PAXfly]

Hello travellers,

Unfortunately, the overcast skies and rain seem to have followed me back to Sydney after my weekend away in Melbourne.

This week has seen me bunkered down studying and trying to keep up with the airline and travel news on the blog. I've also been planning a few jaunts for later in the year. Over at Qantas, apparently, they have been interviewing internal candidates to replace Alan Joyce after the end of 2023, with the expectation of some kind of announcement ahead of a shareholder briefing later in May. My prediction was that Joyce would stay around until the launch of Project Sunrise. With that launch delayed until late in 2025, he probably won't last that long.

What happened last week ?

United Airlines announced a 40% increase in its scheduled flights between the USA and Australia and New Zealand from late October. Some are new services, but its mostly increases in frequencies or changes of planes servicing the route to increase capacity. Most seem like seasonal changes. Plaza Premium opened the only International Lounge in Adelaide.

Qantas has finally re-opened First Class Check-in at Melbourne Airport and has also started direct Melbourne to Jakarta flights.

Next week

Posts could be sparse again this coming week, as my study increases. I'll try to post some reviews but don't get your hopes up. In my study breaks, I am planning some exciting trips for the second half of 2023.

You can now get the flu shot along with your latest COVID-19 booster, so do it.  Please put that damn mask on. If you test positive, contact your GP,  get hold of those antivirals, stay home and take the CDC's advice and isolate for 7-10 days from your positive test result.

Until next week . . .

Stephen
