OLLI at Emory is a member led organization, we rely on volunteers to help make OLLI happen.  April is volunteer month and we want to recognize all of our volunteers and volunteer instructors, you do so much for our organization. Volunteers are essential to our mission of lifelong learning and bring a sense of community and shared commitment to our organization. Thank you for all you do.  If you bump into one of our volunteers or instructors, please thank them!  Our program would not be here without them.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us, there are many ways to help and you set the amount of time you want to invest in our program. Email:
olli@emory.edu or call 404-727-5489.
We hope to see you soon at OLLI at Emory!

Do you know the impact you can have on OLLI’s success?

We all know that Emory’s Osher endowment comes with specific riders — provisions that our program must meet each year to honor our agreement with the Osher Foundation. One of those stipulations is OLLI collecting member donations that equal at least 10% of our member base during each fiscal year. Our fiscal year end on August 31, 2023. Our goal again this year is $15k, and we are currently sitting at $5,825. So, we’re only at about 38% of our goal.

We need to close the gap as August nears. Your donations help with more than our Osher requirements; they can also aid students who may, on occasion, need help paying for a course. That means you are taking an active role in supporting lifelong learning in our community.

All donations show the Osher Foundation that our members have a vested interest in our OLLI at Emory program, and the services we are providing within our community. Any size donation amount helps us reach our goal. So, please, give what you can, and know how grateful we are for your support!  If you would like to donate, please click here for Emory University donation link.

Meet Instructor Wendy Venet

Wendy Venet taught 19th Century U.S. History and American Women's History for 40 years, most recently at Georgia State University.  She is the author of Neither Ballots nor Bullets:  Women Abolitionists and the Civil War and A Strong-Minded Woman:  The Life of Mary Livermore, along with three books about Atlanta's Civil War history.

Wendy discusses her upcoming OLLI course Turning Points in American Women's History.
This 4-week class will examine major turning points in American Women's History, from the time of European contact to the late 20th century.  Topics include women's changing economic role, family life, legal and political rights, race relations, and the impact of wars on women's lives.  This class will include famous women such as Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton, and Margaret Sanger, and less well-known figures including Sarah Hale, Susie King Taylor, and Luisa Moreno.

OLLI Joy Social Group, Spring Multicultural Potluck
The OLLI Joy Social Group would like to start an ongoing potluck at OLLI where we can meet and learn about each other through food. Where is your family from? What is the dish that represents your family. Come join us Friday, May 19th from 12 - 1:30pm. Each person will bring their favorite family dish. Be prepared to say a little something about your dish and why it's important to you. Registration required.  For more information and to sign-up click here.
Courses coming up in May, 2023.
