Riverside hanging baskets are ready!

We are pleased to announce that our beautiful summer hanging baskets, planted up by us right here at Riverside, are now on sale. Whether you want to take one home with you or would simply like to take some inspiration from our designs, we hope you'll have a look when you next visit.

We also have everything you need to make up your own hanging baskets and pots, to bring colour and cheer to your home throughout the months ahead. And if ever you feel unsure where to start, our friendly staff are always on hand to give advice and encouragement.

Veg is hotting up!

We now have our full range of vegetable seedlings in stock, including the more tender varieties such as courgettes, cucumbers, aubergines, tomatoes and peppers.

Plus, this week sees the arrival of our special "Dynamite Chilli Collection" - chilli peppers ranging from the those on the milder side right up to some of the hottest ones available! For our top tips on growing chillis have a look at our blog.

For something a little less fiery, we have also compiled a Pea and Bean Collection to give you extra interesting options for your veg patch, including red flowering runner beans and purple podded peas.

Shade plants for spring

Shady spots can sometimes seem a challenge when it comes to choosing plants, but in fact there are many beautiful plants that tolerate or even thrive in the shade.

This spring the shade house here at Riverside is stocked full of flowering and soon-to-be-flowering plants, including Hostas, Bleeding Heart, Solomon's Seal, Brunnera, Pulmonaria and Lily of the Valley. We also have a wonderful array of ferns in now, from more common varieties to ones that are a bit more unusual. And our collection of Japanese Maples (Acers) is a riot of colour as new leaves unfurl in tones of reds, pinks, vivid greens, oranges and yellows.

Come for a stroll in the shade and see what treasures you can find!

Rhododendrons and Azaleas

One of the most stately groups of spring flowering plants, Rhododendrons and Azaleas are starting to show off their colour. We may often associate them with large gardens and dramatic woodland expanses, but they are equally suited to a pot in a city garden. We have a lovely range to choose from at Riverside and we are happy to help with any advice you need on growing them. Our first top tip? Remember that they require acid soil (or ericaceous compost) to thrive.

Happy to help.

If you have any questions at all then please feel free to contact us, we'd love to hear from you!
