On Writing from Zimbabwe: A Reading and Public Discussion
with Acclaimed Zimbabwean Writer and Filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga

Acclaimed Zimbabwean writer and filmmaker, Tsitsi Dangarembga will present a reading on Monday, April 24 at Rofhiwa Book Cafe, followed by an open discussion with Prof. Tsitsi Jaji and students on Tuesday, April 25 at Duke. Both events are open to the public.

Tsitsi Dangarembga is an influential African feminist, and recently released a collection of essays, Black and Female. She is most beloved for her three novels centered on the character Tambu-- Nervous Conditions, The Book of Not, and This Mournable Body (short-listed for the 2020 Man Booker Prize). In addition, she has written and directed numerous films and leads the production company, Nyerai Films. A courageous activist who has paid dearly for speaking up for justice in Zimbabwe, Dangarembga has been recognized for both her activism and her artistry. Recent awards include the Norway Authors Freedom of Expression Award, the Windham-Campbell Award and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. She is currently a Joy Foundation Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study (Harvard).
