Vestry Meeting Highlights for April 26, 2023

The Rector Transition Group requested by Rev. Joanna is in place and they have an initial zoom meeting set with Joanna for May 18.

Good progress continues on the renovations in the Rectory, with interior painting almost complete, the new custom storm windows should be arriving soon, and kitchen improvements are being planned. Thanks to David Hermann for managing this project!

Our lLenten Outreach Donation to Episcopal Relief and Development totaled $5,245.00 with $2,745 in donations from parishioners being matched by $2,500 from our Outreach Funds.

Kathy Heuss has graciously volunteered to staff the church office for a couple of hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week through June, helping with the mail and telephone messages and email. That compliments the volunteer coverage being provided at other times by Karen Anderson, Patty Fox, Wendy Weber and Jan Wilson. Our thanks go out to each of those volunteers.

We set a goal of July 1 to have a new Vestry member in place to serve the remaining 18 months of the term that Sue Hecklau held. We will be talking to parish members about that opportunity to serve.

Our Transition Facilitator Mark Betley joined us for the last hour of our meeting and helped us focus discussion on balancing expectations and allowing plenty of "time to learn" for both our Community and Rev. Joanna as we start our mutual journey together.

We can change a bit, if we really want to." (Preface ix)
All are welcome to join us in this reading and conversation.
We meet via Zoom from 8:30 am to 9:30 am each Wednesday morning.

SPEAK FAITH
Dear friends,

St. Francis has been attributed with the saying, “preach the Gospel at all times; use words if necessary.” Our Bishop reminds us that in these times of great change and struggle, using our words to speak our faith IS necessary. At the same time, how many of us struggle to find the words to speak the faith that is in us?

Speak Faith is a safe environment to explore our faith and get courageous sharing it. Five group meetings will focus on the Bible, how we talk about God, Anglican history and identity, and faith and justice. In each session we’ll go deep with a guest teacher and reflection in small groups. Between sessions we’ll stay connected through prayer partnerships, personal study, and fun activities.

Speak Faith is a great opportunity for all Episcopalians to get to know and engage their faith in a deeper way, and can also be part of teen and adult preparation for Confirmation and Reception.  All sessions are held over Zoom.

If you have laypersons in your congregation who may be interested in Confirmation or Reception, or who you would think would benefit from Speak Faith, please direct them to the resources on the diocesan website: https://cnyepiscopal.org/speak-faith/.  This includes a sign-up link.

People with questions, or wanting more information, can be in touch with me at tferguson@cnyepiscopal.org.

Our first session, giving an introduction and overview of Speak Faith, will be from 9 AM - 12:30 PM on May 20, with a second session in Bible June 17.  The program then takes a break for the summer, with sessions in September, October, and November.    Tom+

Fair Trade Shop @ Stone Presbyterian

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other single-day national festival, largely due to America’s enthusiasm for what many consider a holiday, although it is not an official holiday in America.  Come and check out some fun things you can purchase to celebrate  St. Patrick’s Day!
Our Felted Wool Lucky Gnomes from Guatemala are wee fellows that will bring luck to your home and a smile to your face year round.  They have a string for hanging, but they like to sit on a shelf, too.
Our mystical, magical Felted Wool Unicorn has a gentle smile, a golden horn and a fluffy, tri-colored mane and tail.  He is lovingly hand-crafted by artisans in Guatemala also.  Legend has it that unicorns have magical powers, to heal sickness and to render poisoned water potable.
These and MANY, MANY MORE uniquely handcrafted gift items from 38 different countries can be found at our FAIR TRADE SHOP, STONE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 8 SO. PARK ROW, CLINTON. Our regular hours are 10am to 4pm every Thursday and SECOND SATURDAYS.  Purchasing fair trade items ensures artisans and small farmers fair wages and healthy working conditions, providing dignity, sustainable development and hope for marginalized people.  LET US BE YOUR GO-TO GIFT SHOP!  Visit us at

St. James’ Episcopal Church is a community of faith where we come together in Christ to develop spiritually through worship and Spirit-led action. We experience the sacred through our liturgy, music, hospitality, and shared ministries.  As part of our outreach mission to the greater Clinton area, the parish campus is used by various community groups as a place of meeting and fellowship.  We are continually and prayerfully exploring ways to transform the world through loving faith-filled service.
