New bylaws change voted at the Annual General Meeting:

“Notwithstanding any other provision of these bylaws, the Board may at any time have the NAIN Council and Board operate and convene as one body, termed as the NAIN General Board and all provisions of these bylaws that refer to the Board or the NAIN Council shall migrate and apply to the one NAIN General Board including, but not limited to, the provisions of votes of the Board or Council being deemed subject to a vote of the migrated NAIN General Board.  The quorum requirement for conducting any business by the NAIN General Board shall be no less than a majority of all designated board/council members or 9 designated board/council members, whichever is less.”

What does this mean?

It has been a rocky year for NAIN but we are on track to be stronger than ever. This change to the bylaws will allow the leadership structure of NAIN to “breath with both lungs.” By bringing the Board and the Council together, without abolishing either one, we hope to make our structure more dyanamic, funcitonal, and effecient.

New NAIN Vice-Chair:

Vivian Kwok is the newly appointed Vice-Chair of the NAIN General Board. Many thanks to Lewis Cardinal who most recently served in that position.

Vivian has obtained the Honors Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, and the Masters of Divinity from the University of St. Michael's College, Toronto School of Theology. She is experienced in Ecumenical and Interfaith work from her many years of networking with faith partners and organized Ecumenical and Interfaith events. She had worked in the Office of Ecumenical and Interfaith Affairs of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto for over 7 years.

In addition to working in the investment, financial, and health care industries, Vivian has a variety of ministry experiences through working and volunteering for the Roman Catholic Church, and a number of ecumenical and interfaith organizations (e.g. National Muslim Christian Liaison Committee, Toronto Area Interfaith Council, Canadian Council of Churches) for over 27 years. She is the founder of the “Interfaith Circle,” which strives to build mutually supportive and long-lasting friendships through dialogue, prayer, and action.

The ministry areas she has worked in include Religious Education, Young Adults, Youths, Ecumenical and Interfaith, University, Parish, Music, Liturgy, and Liturgical Movements. She has also had some experience with Theatre and Wedding Planning.

Threats to Pluralism and Religious Liberty in North America

NAIN Workshop

5:30 PM - 7:00 PM CDT - Monday August 14, 2023 Chicago, Illinois

We will explore:
What is the state of pluralism in North America? How is separation of church and state functioning in lived reality in our communities? What steps forward do we need to take to preserve pluralism and religious liberty in North America?

NAIN’s panel will focus on the global rise of faith-based nationalism through the lens of communities in North America.  This wave of extremism can be found in many parts of the world and is challenging the very heart of pluralism and religious freedoms.
