Rocky Mountain Refuge Connections

Remembering Ray Anthony Gonzales

You are receiving this email because you’ve supported us in the past.

Rocky Mountain Refuge is the only shelter in Colorado that provides a safe, comfortable place for our unhoused neighbors who need end of life care.
Did you know we've been open for a little over a year now?

Remembering Ray

Often when we see our unhoused neighbors we don’t see the full person, only the image in front of us.  Ray was a slight fellow, and looked the part of someone living on the streets.  But, he was kind, reaching out to his Rocky Mountain Refuge roommate to include him in various conversations. Laughing and talking with him and the staff.  Also, when several of his family members came to visit, he would try to include his room mate as best he could.

Ray enjoyed old cars and riding his bike.  He loved his music, dancing (go Turbo!), and loved taking things apart and then not knowing how to put them back together.  Above all he loved his granddaughter (who left the note above) and no matter how bad he was feeling she always made his day better.

All of us are more than mere appearances.  You are someone’s child, partner, sibling, or even someone’s grandpa.  Ray passed in comfort and peace on April  22, 2023.  We will hold a memorial service for in late June.
