Foster Spotlight: Bullwinkle
Bullwinkle wants you to know “I'm a Hound/Lab mix puppy that just LOVES life. I’m not as interested in being picked up as I am to get up on my own to cuddle, which I love to do. I also give kisses when I'm being held.  I love to gallop everywhere I go. Playing and wrestling with my foster siblings. What do you expect, I’m still a baby wanting to play! At the end of the day I love to cuddle up in my dog bed with a blanket. I want to see what's going on all the time, and like it better when around others. I'm working on potty training and use puppy pads in the house. I get along with the cats in the house too and like to go find them when they are hiding. I have also learned fetch already. I am a smart boy and just want my very own family to love me forever”. Bullwinkle is a young dog who forgot to mention that he is not blind and can see just fine.

Homeward Bound: Kobi
Here is the most recent on Kobi from his family:

”We have absolutely loved adding Kobi to our little family & think he has settled in extremely well. It took him a shockingly brief period of time to map out his new surroundings. Most people don’t even notice he is blind till we either tell them or the notice the lack of eyes.

We have fallen in love with Kobi’s personality, especially his love of cuddling and tiny stuffed animals. It took a bit for his siblings, 2 cats and a dog (Moose), to figured out that their brother was blind. But now the cats know to give Kobi a little meow if he is about to walk into them and Moose has accepted that Kobi will land on him occasionally when getting off of the couch.

Here are some of our favorite photos. We are so thankful that BDRA brought Kobi into our life & think Kobi is pretty content as well.”

How to Help
Rainbow Bridge
BDRA adopters and volunteers recently said goodbye to these beloved dogs.
Henry (was Brian) was adopted in August 2022 by a previous adopter.  Henry had to be put down when his mom noticed blood and straining too much to urinate.  She took him to the ER vet where they took X-rays and an ultrasound and found he had a massive tumor in his bladder.  It was just too far gone.  She was hoping to keep him for a few days so she could say “Goodbye” and get some cuddles in but she just couldn’t bear seeing him trying to urinate so decided to help him cross the rainbow bridge.  I’m so glad he had a wonderful winter in a home where he got love, attention and all the vetting he needed.
P.S. Henry’s adopter just adopted Andy who is another BDRA dog so we look forward to regular updates.
Sam was adopted in March 2015 and died at the age of 18. Sam’s mom shared this with us: “He had a beautiful 8 years with us and we miss him. Thanks for everything you guys do.  I remember exactly when I got him from BDRA. He was a little old man with a lot of personality even in the end. He loved both places he lived and being on the beach and walking the marsh trail behind our house constantly hunting rabbits and even while blind occasionally finding one. :) He will be so missed by us and his little brother Bruno.”
Vida was adopted by her foster mom in March 2011. passed away on February 21. Vida mom wrote: ”She came down with congestive heart failure and then the medicines the emergency vet put her on caused her to severely dehydrate and she couldn’t recover. She was suffering terribly. She would have been 18 in April. I miss her dearly.”
