Spring. A time of change, of renewal, and of uncertainty. It's also mental health awareness month. I'm reminded that, often, when we think about mental health, we think mostly about the absence of mental illness and the absence of emotional turmoil and struggle. But mental health isn't the absence of struggle. It IS the struggle with all the challenges life throws our way. It's coming to realize that anxiety and our other painful emotions can feel terrible, but they can be a healthy part of being human IF we engage and work through them, and keep going no matter what - because no feeling is final. That's the human condition. To paraphrase Pema Chödrön, a life well-lived requires us to "lean into the sharp points."
