About the Panelists
James Barragán is a politics reporter for The Texas Tribune with a focus on accountability reporting. Prior to joining the Tribune, James worked as a statehouse reporter for The Dallas Morning News and had previous stints at the Austin American-Statesman and the Los Angeles Times. A Southern California native, James received his bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA.
Cayla Harris covers state politics out of Hearst's Austin bureau. She previously covered New York state government for the Albany Times Union. She is a 2019 graduate of the George Washington University, where she studied journalism and Spanish. During her time in D.C., she interned for the Hearst Washington bureau.
Gromer Jeffers Jr. is a political writer for The Dallas Morning News. The Howard University graduate and Chicago native has covered four presidential campaigns and written extensively about local, state and national politics. Before The News, he was a reporter at The Kansas City Star and The Chicago Defender.
Andrew Schneider is the senior reporter for politics and government at Houston Public Media, NPR’s affiliate station in Houston. In this capacity, he heads the station’s coverage of national, state and local elections. He also reports on major policy issues before the Texas Legislature and county and city governments across Houston. Andrew holds degrees in history from the University of Chicago and Duke University.
