Recruiting Working Group Members

Come join our three working groups (Socioeconmic Status, Perinatal Mental Health, SGBA) that advance our mission to promote, expand and catalyze multidisciplinary research on women's health. By joining you will network once a month with leading researchers to brainstorm and execute plans to advance women's health through knowledge translation, capacity building, advocacy and/or facilitating new research. Sign up here.
 

Belonging, Dignity and Justice Advisory Committee

We are recruiting new members to join our advisory committee. We will meet bi-annually to review the WHRC's processes and make recommendations on  how we can better integrate EDI within our organization. We are keen to engage members who identify as gender-diverse, BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, male and those who have a disability. We encourage people from all career stages to join. Sign up here.

There's been a ton of research on the sexual response cycle in men and this has been broadly applied to women. COVID-19 Vaccine Safety in Pregnancy 

“COVID-19 vaccines have been available in Canada since December 2020. Experts recommended COVID-19 vaccines during pregnancy based on smaller studies of other mRNA vaccines in pregnancy and several decades of administering vaccines in pregnancy.” Read more.

May 25th Fundamentals Workshop

UBC Support Programs to Advance Research Capacity (SPARC) is hosting its first fundamentals workshop. Part 1 of this series will be an overview of this portfolio as well as SPARC support services. This workshop will help prepare UBC researchers in applying to the CIHR Strategic competitions and is especially helpful to those who are new to CIHR. The workshop will be held over Zoom.

Funding

National Women’s Health Research Initiative 

There is a new funding opportunity for biomedical discovery grants in collaboration between the Canadian Institute of Health Research, Institute of Gender and Health, and Women and Gender Equality Canada. It is anticipated that $2,000,000, will be available to fund approximately 13 discovery grants. It will be focused on studies in women’s health. The initiative has launched and the deadline to apply is July, 2023. Read more.
 

2023 International Joint Initiative for Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Competition

This initiative represents a collaboration among research funders from different countries to leverage international expertise to tackle the global challenges caused by climate change. The total amount of funding available to support each project will depend on the partners that will be supporting the project. Apply by Sept, 2023. Read more.
 

Sex Differences in Radiation Research

The Office of Research on Women’s Health has a new funding opportunity for early-stage research to better understand the underlying causes of radiation-associated sex differences. These inherent sex differences can potentially contribute to differences in radiation sensitivity, efficacy of mitigation, as well as biomarkers of radiation injury and recovery. Application budgets are not expected to exceed $350,000. Apply by September 6th, 2023. Read more.

Breast Arterial Calcifications Survey

Dr. Charlotte Yong-Hing is leading an international research group conducting a survey on the awareness and reporting preferences of breast arterial calcifications amongst referring physicians in Canada.
