Important Spring Reminders!

This school year has been fantastic, and we're wrapping it up with opportunities to showcase our talented students and to connect with one another. Check out the reminders below for upcoming events and important dates, and make sure to subscribe to our online calendar here

Teacher Appreciation Week
Our teachers at Gardner are unique in their ability to create innovative curriculum, respond to the interests and needs of their students, and to work together to support the entire school. Next week, May 8th- 12th is National Teacher Appreciation Week, and you're invited to share your appreciation in whatever way is most meaningful for your family.

On Wednesday, May 10th, we're bringing back a favorite activity from last year! Each student is invited to bring flowers or foliage to contribute to bouquets for each teacher, whether it's just one, or enough for all their teachers or enough for all staff members! The admin team will be available at drop off to help trim and arrange the bouquets before delivering them to the classrooms.

Looking for more ways to help celebrate our teachers? Reach out to Assistant Head Courtney Tomlinson for more volunteering or donation opportunities.
Sharing Stories from Gardner
Did you have a chance to see the video from our latest auction? It's a great reminder of how our school creates a safe and engaging place for children. Also, check out the beautiful photos from the event, courtesy of Santoro Creative.

It's Almost Time to Audition!

Gardner Talent Show 5/25 at 2:30 pm

Save the Date! Our K-6 students will be performing as groups, partners, and individuals for the Gardner Talent Show on Thursday, May 25th at 2:30 pm. Students can sing, dance, tell jokes, perform magic tricks, and more.

Is your child interested in performing? Talents of any kind welcome, all performances must be appropriate for all ages and should not exceed 3 minutes. Teacher Devon is leading the auditions during recess time, and is ready to help support our brave and creative students. To sign your child up for an audition spot, please talk with your child about their interest and submit this form by May 12th.

Bring in your pouches!

Gardner + Terracycle

Our students are collecting food pouches like apple sauce squeezes and recycling them through Terracycle and GoSqueeze. Our classroom teachers are helping students remember to put them in the special classroom bins, and then they take them to our Recycle Hub on the Farmhouse porch. You're welcome to participate by bringing in these items from home, too! Not only does it do something positive for the environment, but Gardner School can actually earn money back from this program!

Learning in Action

Upper Grades Fish Dissection
This week, our 3rd-6th graders participated in a rainbow trout dissection with Columbia Springs' Salmon in the Classroom staff. Gardner School has partnered with Columbia Springs for years to raise and release salmon, and we're excited to host their team to learn even more about both of these important Pacific Northwest species. Students were put into five different groups mixed between the two classrooms and learned about the external and internal anatomy of rainbow trout. The trout's body systems were highlighted during the dissection and discussions about what that system does. Learning about our world and the animals and ecosystems in it teaches students to be thoughtful stewards of the land, and we're grateful for opportunities like these with our community partners!
