Don't Listen To Me

April 27, 2023

Listen Now

Recently, we were having dinner with dear friends we only get to see once or twice a year. As you do, we were all sharing what our kids were up to currently. After telling them what our three were up to, I said, “If I had been giving them career advice, none of them would be doing what they are doing now. It’s a good thing they didn’t ask.”  We all laughed because we know the temptation to try to manage our children’s lives.

How can we help our children, or ourselves, find what God wants for us? Max Lucado gives a wonderful PLAN that we can use.

First, God wants us to align with His plan. What is His plan? He wants us to “go and make disciples” (Matt 28:19). Whether you work in education, business, or hospitality, our overarching goal is to lead others to Him.

Second, what are our longings? The Psalmist says, “Enjoy serving the Lord, and He will give you what you want.” God needs His people in every corner and venue in the world. He gave you your passions and interests so you can go there with Him.

Third, what are your abilities? We told our children that God had created them to fulfill His purpose for their lives, not ours, not their peers, not the culture. Psalm 139 describes how delicately God designs each of us. He gave you the tools you need for your job.

Last, what are you doing now? God, in His providence, has placed you in the place and time that He wants you to be. Jesus went to Jerusalem at age 12 and amazed the rabbis, but He returned to Nazareth to live and work until it was time for His public ministry. God wants to use you where you are right now

So don’t listen to me or anyone else. Listen to God and follow His plan for your life.
