Hello friends.
The month of May means the season is near the end and the state track and field championship meet is circled on your calendars. Whether you are trying to qualify for state for the first time or attempting to win multiple state titles, the state track and field championship is the culmination of months of hard work, sacrifices, dedication and a wee bit of luck.
For some states, qualifying for state can be extremely difficult, no matter what mark you post. (I see you Texas.) If you happen to live in a district or region that is loaded with the state’s top talent, you or your team could post one of the best marks in your event but never get a chance to compete for a state title. In other states, you or your team’s mark could earn a spot at the state meet because at large berths or qualifying standards are in play. Here’s a call to all state associations to include at-large berths or qualifying standards so the best the state has to offer can compete at the state meet. Let’s not leave a deserving athlete or team at home wondering “What if?”
Good luck to all athletes this month as they finish out their seasons. We’re rooting for you!
