  • Zoe Ketola's Master's Thesis Defense in Environmental and Energy Policy
    • The defense will be held on Wednesday, April 19th at 9:00 am in GLRC 202 and on zoom.
    • Titled: Accepting Change: Facets of Acceptance & Sustainable Redevelopment
  • Dane Kim's Phd Proposal Defense in Environmental and Energy Policy
    •  Wednesday, April 19th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm
    • Titled: The Adoption, Design, and Impact of Clean Energy Policies
    • Dane Kim will be remote but his defense can be viewed in AOB 201 and on ZOOM
  • Tim Maze's Master's Thesis Defense in Industrial Heritage and Archaeology
    • Monday, April 24th at 1:30 pm in AOB 201 and on zoom
    • Titled: The Implications of Waste Streams at Camp Au Train
  • The Sustainability Demonstration Houses Earth Day Dinner - Thursday, April 20th from 4-7pm in McNair dining hall.
    • This event will showcase a sustainable diet of predominantly plant-based foods while diverting waste from the landfill through composting and recycling.
    • Everyone is welcome! There will be donated guest passes available or you can pay at the event. 
Congratulations! 
  • Congratulations to Jenna Messer for winning the William and Josephine Balconi Community Service Award. Jenna was nominated for this award by multiple faculty members due to her strong commitment to community both here on campus and within the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
  • Congratulations to Cheyenne Scott for winning Michigan Tech's Exceptional Leadership in Student Governance award. The Exceptional Leadership in Student Governance award recognizes a student who has represented the entire constituency fairly and accurately while striving to make significant improvements to the organization and community.
And finally Congratulations to all who are almost done with the semester and the school year, you are almost at the finish line so don't give up now!  "Believe in yourself. Even if you don’t, pretend that you do and at some point, you will." (Venus Williams)

Jobs and Other Opportunities
Undergrad:
  • Fulbright Student Awards.
    • Fulbright scholarships provide 6-24 months of international experience to students looking to teach English, conduct graduate research, or earn a master's or PhD abroad.
    • Funding is substantial and all-inclusive.
    • For BS students looking for a gap year after they graduate, the English Teaching Assistant Awards may be ideal.
    • For BS students looking for MS programs, Fulbright will often pay for the first year of a 2-year MS or completely cover a 1-year MS program.
    • While the deadline for Fulbright is October 10, 2023, given the extensive application process, you cannot wait until the Fall Semester to begin an application, so be sure to reach out to your advisor today. 
  • Climate Justice Research Scientist
    • The Climate Justice Research Scientist will support and expand our social science, policy, governance and project management capabilities across various climate change adaptation projects, with an emphasis on projects in collaboration with frontline communities.
    • Located in Seattle, Washington at the University of Washington. 
    • Application review will begin on April 21, 2023.
    • A bachelors degree plus two years of experience is required.

  • University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
    • The University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment (IonE) has recently launched a cohort-
      based Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.
    • The program is looking for recent PhDs or PhD candidates who are interested in interdisciplinary
      academic research and community-engaged scholarship with a focus on solutions-oriented
      research in sustainability to support an equitable and just transition for all.
      Those who are interested in applying can visit IonE Postdoc Fellowship webpage.
    • Applications are accepted until 12pm Central Time on May 1, 2023.
