Dear Reader,

Welcome to our monthly round-up for March.

This month, we did an in-depth analysis of trade, the balance of payments, and food prices in Pakistan in the macro data section.

The Insights for Change series featured an article “How would avoiding child marriages affect human capital outcomes in Pakistan?”. The article explores the link between low educational attainment, early marriages, and the consequent impact on human capital and economic outcomes in Pakistan.

In the policy analysis section, we have included a synthesis paper, ‘‘Administrative data and methodologies for tax policy”, which is part of the International Growth Center’s (IGC) Tax for Growth initiative. This synthesis paper outlines the general value of administrative data for evidence-based policy design, reviews the main research methodologies in public finance which use administrative data, and discusses the best practices and challenges with managing administrative data and developing policy-research engagements. The research presented in the paper includes data from Pakistan.

We have also introduced our latest podcast series “Let’s Talk Development”. In the first episode, Dr. Ijaz Nabi hosted Dr. Murtaza Syed to discuss Pakistan’s economic crisis.

At the end, we included news articles written by CDPR fellows.

We hope you find our round-up informative.
