And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for appointed times, and for days and years. (Gen 1:14)

Dear Friends,

We are happy to update you that upon further reflection, we have decided to earnestly look for the New Moon on Thursday, April 20, 2023, despite the improbability that it can be seen.

We look for the crescent New Moon from Israel, because that’s the sign the new month has begun (Gen 1:14). In fact, the Hebrew word for month is “chodesh”, which comes from the root ch.d.sh. (new), because the moon is seen anew at the beginning of the month (1 Samuel 20:5;24 Psalm81:4[3]; Eziekiel 46:1). And we know the crescent needs to be sighted from Israel, because the commandments are meant to be kept in the Land (Dt 6:1). In fact, if one were to begin the month (or year), based on signs outside of Israel, they may very well not end up keeping the holy days at their appointed times.

If you're in Israel, and successfully sight the New Moon with your naked eye (corrective lenses are permissible), we would appreciate if you could please fill out this short form, so we can include your observation in the report. Remember, your observation may be the one that determines when we should begin the month.

As always, we plan on sharing the New Moon Report following the observation, so be  sure to subscribe to our e-mail list and social media platforms, so you don’t miss that report.
