Upcoming faculty search
 
We will soon begin a search for a new core faculty member for the Center for Mental Health, Policy, and the Law (CMHPL). The position will have a research and program evaluation focus and the successful candidate will have experience and expertise in content areas relevant to forensic mental health and serious mental illness. Forensic Mental Health Journal Club

The CMHPL will launch a new quarterly journal club on April 24, hosted by Dr. Jennifer Piel and Dr. Edward Goldenberg. During the first session, participants will discuss two articles related to correctional mental health. The club is open to practicing clinicians, clinical trainees, and anyone interested in topics in forensic mental health. Register to receive the Zoom link

 
Staff scholarship award
 
The CMHPL team received an award from the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to complete a professional training program: Stigma in the Law and the Impact on the Forensic Mental Health Evaluation. The program was offered through Palo Alto University, in partnership with Mental Disability Law and Policy Associates.

Legal update: New DEA training requirement

Starting on June 27, 2023, clinicians will be prompted to affirm completion of a new training requirement on their next scheduled DEA registration submission. Learn more

New Journeys Virtual Gathering (FREE)

National Consortium on Racial & Ethnic Fairness in Courts
Host: Washington Supreme Court’s Minority & Justice Commission

This consortium is a valuable opportunity to gather to discuss current challenges to race equity and racial fairness in the courts and share practical strategies for advancing equal access to courts and eliminating structural, systemic, and institutional barriers to justice through the courts. Washington State Law & Ethics for Behavioral Health Professionals

Confidentiality

This module on confidentiality is designed to teach general psychiatry residents about basic concepts in forensic psychiatry using an interactive, case-based format. It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Access module.
