Ares Data Cleanup

An illustration of a computer with a mop and bucket alongside it. Access Services, LTS, and Atlas Systems purged over 840,000 historical request records and 37,000 user records from ILLiad in April. Now it is time to do the same for Ares!

On May 22, courses and enrollment data older than five years will be deleted from Ares. PDFs of book chapters and journal articles will also be deleted if not used in five or more years. After this initial purge, Access Services will perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal system performance.

The Libraries Communications department is helping us get the word out to faculty in advance, and a system alert has been posted for patrons on the Ares login screen. Please contact Amanda Rudd (rudd@wustl.edu, 314-935-8235) with any questions.

Apply Now for HDW Summer Workshop

Washington University Libraries staff are invited to apply for summer fellowships with the Humanities Digital Workshop (HDW). Library Fellows join project teams during the HDW Summer Workshop for approximately 10 to 20 hours per week between June 5 and July 28.

No particular technical or field expertise is required. University Libraries staff should request participation from their supervisors and AUL to ensure that participation in the program will not adversely affect normal work activities. There will be a dozen projects underway.

Applications or questions can be directed to Humanities Digital Workshop Assistant Director Doug Knox (dknox@wustl.edu). To apply, send your CV or résumé and a paragraph-long description of your interest in the digital humanities and the HDW to Doug. For first consideration, Library Fellow applications are due by May 17, 2023.

If you have any questions, contact Humanities Data Curator and Data Services Librarian Sarah Swanz (sswanz@wustl.edu).

Volunteer in Olin on Commencement Day

Illustrated hands raised with hearts in the palms symbolizing the spirit of volunteering. Commencement day (Monday, May 15) is almost upon us. In anticipation of a higher volume of visitors, LSBOM is seeking two staff volunteers per hour from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at Olin Library. Volunteers will be positioned on Level 1 near the north and south entrances to greet visitors and help direct them to restrooms, drinking fountains, happenings in and around the library, and attractions such as the Declaration of Independence and other exhibits.

If you like being in the center of commencement-related activities, meeting people and pointing them in the right direction, and you do not mind standing and/or walking for an hour, please consider volunteering: Olin Library Commencement Volunteer Sign-up.
