Apr. 25, $100 Million in Funding, 1 pm. COME TESTIFY
LD1074 $100 Million Bond for Housing - Appropriations Committee
  • Last public hearing to testify for funding for affordable housing.
  • No need to rewrite testimony, as this is a different committee.
  • Testify in FAVOR of this priority bill to fund affordable housing development with a $100 million bond.
  • We want to continue our strong message, now with the Appropriations Committee, that funding is the primary barrier to building housing, and the development and construction community are ready to build. We've shared it with the Housing Committee, and now's our chance to share it with the AFA Committee as they will be recommending the budgeted amount for housing and this bond.
  • You can review the MAHC testimony for LD226 funding to use for talking points here. MAHC will share LD1074 specific talking points next week.
  • Submit testimony or sign up for Zoom testimony here or attend in person. Its helpful to bring 20 copies of your testimony.

MAHC Testified

In Favor of LD226 to Provide $200 Million in Funding for Affordable Housing
Testimony  MAHC and others had good turn out and testimony was strongly in favor of this funding from developers, construction companies, individuals in need, community action agencies, housing providers, and others. Maine hasn't met the demand for affordable housing since the 1970s. Maine needs to lead as the "Dirigo" state. Maine needs to be able to look back on this time, as we do for the 1970s, and be able to say that Maine led the way, and met the needs of housing Maine people.
