Upcoming Events in Support
of the Waterfront Parks

Mark your calendars and plan to attend these upcoming events:

Earth Day at Lassing Park

We invite you to join Waterfront Parks Foundation in celebrating Earth Day at the Lassing Park Shoreline Restoration Project on Saturday, April 22nd.

Mayor Ken Welch will kick off this Earth Day event at the north end of Lassing Park, 2042 Beach Dr SE, St. Petersburg. at 9:00 am. Neighbors and visitors will then learn about the Lassing Park Living Shoreline Project from Tampa Bay Watch experts.

Creation of a living shoreline project includes the installation of oyster reef balls, oyster shell reefs, and coastal wetland plants. These installations and plantings prevent further erosion of Lassing Park, restore lost habitat systems to the bay, and improve water quality through natural biological filtration.

In the two years since the project began, the Lassing Park Living Shoreline Project is already showing positive erosion mitigation and restoration results. This effort is being championed by Tampa Bay Watch, the City of St. Petersburg Parks Department, the Old Southeast Neighborhood Association, and District 6 Council Member Gina Driscoll. Other supporting organizations present Saturday with additional information will include the Waterfront Parks Foundation, Friends of Salt Creek, St Pete Water Resources, Tropical Shores Neighborhood Association, and local city officials.
