Private meeting rooms can be booked for 45 minutes beginning at the top of the hour, Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a reservation. Reservations must be made online here.
LEARNING LAB
•••   Teens and kids ages 12+ are invited to the Young Adult Room after school for Learning Lab. Learning Lab is open Mondays-Fridays from 3-5pm. Email Young Adult Librarian Laura Hearn with any questions: lhearn@clamsnet.org.

MONDAY, MAY 1st at 11:30 AM: VIRTUAL BALANCE CLASS (online via Zoom)
•••    Kanta Lipsky will continue her virtual Balance Classes on Mondays and Fridays at 11:30 AM. In this class, we will explore ways to strengthen our connection to the earth and increase our bodies’ ability to maintain good balance. A chair will be necessary for some of the movements. Email wt_mail@clamsnet.org to join.

MONDAY, MAY 1st from 3:30-5:00 PM: MICROSCOPE MONDAY
•••    Come learn how to use the microscope with naturalist Elliott Bennett and  explore the microscopic world. WTL will supply the microscope, all you have to bring is your curiosity.  ( if you have a microscope you can bring it if you like) This is an intergenerational offering. All ages welcome.
MONDAY, MAY 1st at 6:00 PM “MEDITATION and BEYOND with ELIOTT S. DACHER M.D. (in-person)
••• Elliott S. Dacher, M.D. will lead a five session course on meditation. Meditation is an age-old contemplative practice that has two aims. The first is to improve the quality of day-to-day life – less stress, reactivity, distress, suffering, and enhanced well-being. The second, and most profound aim, is to enable us to go beyond our ordinary life to that “proverbial “more to life.” This requires an approach that is direct and effortlessly simple.
Each session will include a presentation, practice, discussion, and helpful resources Those who complete the course will be on the path to a larger and more satisfying life. Class dates are April 17, April 24, May 1, May 15, and May 22 
TUESDAY, MAY 2nd at 5 PM: KNITTING GROUP (in-person)
•••   All are welcome to join the library’s Knitting Group on Tuesdays at 5pm. Join librarian Lyn for a relaxing hour of creativity and conversation. Help yourself to supplies provided by the library or bring your own supplies from home or another project you are working on. This group is open to adults and teens, and all levels are welcome. No sign up is required.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3rd at 7:30 AM: CHAIR YOGA AND MEDITATION CLASS (online via Zoom)
•••    All levels and ages are invited to chair yoga and meditation led by Jason Mazar-Kelly (YogiJay) on Wednesdays. In this class, participants will be guided through seated and moving meditations utilizing the support and assistance of a chair. All you will need for this class is an armless chair and a place to put it. Please click here to sign up.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3rd at 10:30, TRADITIONAL STORYTIME (in-person)
•••  Children’s librarian, Mikaela, will be hosting a weekly  traditional storytime. Families will be able to listen and enjoy books new and old with some songs thrown in the mix. All ages are welcome but this storytime is designed for toddlers and young kids.

•••   Digital Navigation Technology Assistance is available by appointment Wednesdays from 11am-1pm. Do you need help navigating the internet, using a smartphone or tablet, or other technology questions? Email rrooney@clamsnet.org to set up an appointment. Appointments are limited to 20 minutes, once a week. 
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3rd at 11:30-1:00, SPRING INTO  WELLBEING: AN ENERGY STRENGTHENING CLASS with SHANTA GABRIEL (on-line)
•••  As we move into the spring season, it is a good time for revitalization. In this class you will learn: Self-healing tools and simple, fun and empowering energetic exercises to allow more calm agility into your lifestyle to —provide balance, healing energy, relaxation, and uplifted awareness strengthening your understanding to the important connection to the electromagnetic energy field around your body. We will also learn breath and meditative practices to help you feel more- centered, equanimous, discrimination for emotional balance, resilient and resourceful. WEDNESDAY, MAY 3rd at 3 PM: VIRTUAL REALITY FOR TWEENS & TEENS (in-person)
•••   Join us Wednesdays from 3-5 pm for VR in the Young Adult Room. The library’s Oculus VR will be set up for 10-15 minute of use per person with age appropriate games. This program is for ages 10-18. Please sign-up once you arrive.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3rd at 4:00 PM: CARD CLUB FOR ALL AGES (in-person)
•••  Join us for our  weekly Card Club! Every Wednesday at the library we will host a club for people who love to play cards or are interested in learning. Open to all ages and skill levels. Come and share your favorite games or learn a  new one, everything from Go Fish to Canasta!   
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3rd at 4:30 PM: THE CRAFT OF POETRY (ON-LINE via ZOOM)
•••    West Tisbury Poet Laureate Tain Leonard-Peck will lead a series of poetry writing workshops on alternating Wednesdays. This workshop focuses on building the fundamentals of crafting poetry, through analyzing original pieces submitted by workshop participants. Bring a poem you’ve previously written or try your hand at a new prompt. Prompts and themes will be provided to spark your creativity. Come explore poetry in an inclusive, welcoming environment! FRIDAY, MAY 5th at 7:30 AM: YOGA CLASS WITH JASON MAZAR-KELLY (online via Zoom)
•••    Join our weekly all-levels Kripalu Flow Yoga led by Jason Mazar-Kelly (Yogijay). Classes focus on soothing the nervous system through a combination of movement, breathwork, and meditation. This class is accessible to all levels and is a fun way to wake up while starting the day with a sense of peace in these times of uncertainty.

•••    Come join a weekly child centered music time with Maryse Smith. Instruments will be provided, but feel free to bring your own as well! No sign up required to attend.
FRIDAY, MAY 5th at 1:00 PM: MUSIC IS A VISUAL ART: A CONCERT WITH JULIAN LOIDA
(in-person)
•••     Can music be a visual art? Can a painting be heard? Julian Loida, percussionist and composer, uses his synesthesia (a blending of the senses) as inspiration for his creative process. Julian will share about his experiences with his synesthesia and how it influences his creative process. Curiosity, open-mindedness, and passion for music on a visceral level have propelled Julian Loida towards a wide range of experiences and endeavors. In all of his work, his goal is to break down artistic barriers and use music as a tool for healing. His work, which spans genres, has been featured in film and advertisements.

SATURDAY, MAY 6th at 10:30 AM:  ADULT COMMUNITY DANCE CLASS (in-person)
•••    Join Jesse Keller Jason's in-person dance class on Saturdays from 10:30-11:30am. Each class includes a guided warm-up, upbeat movement sequences, and space for the dancers’ own creativity. All levels are welcome! No sign up needed to attend.
SUNDAY, MAY 7th from 1:00-3:00: MOTHER'S DAY PORTRAITS (in-person)
•••    Photographer Lynn Christoffers will offer free portraits to all grandmothers, mothers, and families in honor of Mother’s Day.  Lynn will take photos in the library’s Children’s Room and will send you a jpeg via email. Bring your own mother, or grandmother, or children, or whomever is special to you, to help celebrate Mother’s Day. (No pets, please). This event is free and open to the public.
SUNDAY, MAY 7th from 2:00-4:00 PM: ART RECEPTION- VIRGINIA STONE (in-person)
•••    On Sunday, May 7th, from 2:00-4:00 PM, a reception will take place at the West Tisbury Library to celebrate the art of Virginia Stone.The drawings of Virginia Stone, Chilmark resident, will be on display in the Community Room of the West Tisbury Library for the month of May. These drawings reflect her impressions of the early days of Covid, up-Island. Stone recalls that because she could no longer meet in person with her Featherstone drawing group, she started recording the world around her as a daily drawing practice. 
MONDAY, MAY 8th, at 6:30 PM: ON-LINE WRITERS READ
•••    The West Tisbury Library will host its monthly “Writers Read” evening on Zoom. This event, led by Niki Patton, features community members reading short original prose pieces. Both fiction and nonfiction readings are welcome. Each reader is allotted eight minutes to read. Critique to follow reading is optional. Free and open to the public. Sign up to be a reader or listener at this event by emailing Niki at gaia1muse@gmail.com. 
TUESDAY, MAY 9th at 3:30-4:30 PM: RELAY DAY FOR KIDS! (in-person)

SATURDAY, MAY 13th at 12:00-2:00 PM: CHAIN REACTION (in-person)
•••    Kids and families are invited to join Hugh Phear at the West Tisbury Library to build a Rube Goldbergesque-contraption. All ages are welcome to come try their hand at building an inspired device that performs a simple task in a creative and convoluted way. With limited time, materials, and space, participants will be challenged to innovate in this fun and facilitated activity.
TUESDAY, MAY 16th at 2:00 PM: COMMUNITY POETRY READING (in-person)
•••    The West Tisbury Library will host its biannual Community Poetry Reading featuring community members reading their own poems and/or the poems of others. This event will meet in-person at the library. Help keep the tradition alive by attending as a reader or a listener or both! This event is hosted by the new West Tisbury Poet Laureate, Tain Leonard-Peck. Numbers will be drawn from a hat to determine the reading order. There’s no sign up needed to participate. 
TUESDAY, MAY 16th at 6:30 PM: NATURE-INSPIRED DRAG (in-person)
•••    A conversation on drag, costume, and finding inspiration in nature. On May 16th from 6:30-8:00 PM, at the West Tisbury Library,  please join Felix Neck, QueerHub MV, Providence artist and creator Eli Nixon, and Hudson Valley artist and dancer Hana van der Kolk, for a conversation on expanding drag beyond the binaries of king and queen and finding inspiration for costume and self-identity in nature. This conversation will be followed by a costume creating workshops on June 2nd and 3rd at Felix Neck. 
SATURDAY, MAY 20th at 10:00-12:00 PM MV COMMUNITY SEED SWAP (in-person)
•••    MV Community Seed Library’s annual Seedling Swap. Bring heirloom vegetable, flower, and fruit seedlings or cuttings to swap and share. The seed library collection will be available to check seeds out for the season. Help us grow and develop locally adapted varieties for our seed cabinet, and share in the joy of producing locally grown food. Individual seed library members will bring in extra seedlings to share, so join us by sharing your own extra seedlings, to swap for ones you do not have. Please remember to save your seeds after the growing season and “return” them to the seed library. 
SUNDAY, MAY 21st at 4:00 PM: CLIMATE BOOK CLUB
•••     Our next book will be Greta Thunberg’s “The Climate Book: The Facts and the Solutions” The facilitators of the book group will be Nicola Blake, Sue Hruby and Amelia Smith. MONDAY, MAY 22 at 5:30 PM: LGBTQI+ BOOK CLUB
•••     Join us at the West Tisbury Library on May 22th at 5:30 PM for our LGBTQI+ Book Club! Our May book will be “Detransition Baby” by Torrey Peters. The facilitators of the book group will be West Tisbury Librarian Alexandra Pratt and QueerHubMv’s Scott Mullin. TUESDAY, MAY 23rd at 3:30-5:00 PM: SPRING CLEANING: HERBS TO REFRESH and REVITALIZE THE BODY.
•••     This is an introductory workshop led by Isa Brillard and Sonja Josephson, where they’ll be going over the identification, harvest, uses, and preparations of several well-known, safe, and abundant medicinal plants and how they support the body’s own pathways as it cleanses the system, nourishes the blood, and boosts the movement of the lymphatic, digestive, and circulatory systems in the spring. The plants they’ll be talking about are violet, dandelion, nettles, chickweed, and cleavers. Included in the presentation will be plant ID, harvest tips, and preparations to be made with the herbs. Isa and Sonja will be approaching the plants from both the perspective of Western herbal medicine and an Ayurvedic standpoint.
SATURDAY, MAY 27th at 3:00 PM: BOOK TALK with TOM DRESSER
•••     Local author Thomas Dresser will give a presentation about his new book, Martha’s Vineyard in the Roaring 20s, Radicals and Rascals. Thomas Dresser has written several books on the history of Martha’s Vineyard. This is one of his favorites. Why? It was exciting to find similarities between the 1920s and the 2020s, from the pandemic and prohibition to women’s right to vote and immigration restrictions. 
TUESDAY, MAY 30th at 10:30 AM: WE LOVE MOVIES
•••   The next best thing to watching movies is talking about them! Please join us for a discussion about movies. The group will meet monthly, the next date will be Tuesday, June 27th. The group will be led by Helene Barr. The first movie she saw was “The Red Shoes”. The topic for the first group will be movies about food. Suggestions are “Big Night”, “Babettes Feast”, “Julie and Julia” and, a German film, “Mostly Martha”.

BRAINFUSE
•••    The Martha’s Vineyard Library Association has partnered with Brainfuse, a national online education company, to provide free online tutoring and homework help to all Martha's Vineyard library cardholders. The program is available seven days a week to anyone with a library card issued by any of the six Martha's Vineyard libraries. Click here to learn more about Brainfuse and get started!
