NEW NEWS!!
New Training Sessions to be offered!

Oasis will be providing a new series of training sessions for those interested in becoming Participating Family Members and taking the next step toward independent living for their adult child.  There will be five 2-3 hour sessions to cover all of the material. Dates will not be set until we hear from those interested, but we would like to get this started this spring. This training is required as an Oasis member to receive the benefits of a Community Builder and more detailed information about how to find appropriate housing.  Training is for the parents/family and for the young adult member who is seeking to be more independent and will include multiple sessions.

This training helps determine the member’s strengths and challenges related to living on their own and gives parents the skills to help their adult child do things for themselves and learn to let go. This focuses on areas where that individual may need more help now and in the future. There are also extensive discussions on how to find housing and the types of housing available. There will also be training for the disabled members to help them with self-advocacy, self-determination, socialization, and other life skills necessary to be independent.

Our Community Builder plays a key role in assisting members achieve their potential, enjoy a meaning-filled life, and working toward their personally set goals.  These services will be specifically for a group of Oasis members who have completed training and are transitioning to their own homes. The Community Builder will assist members in growing social, community and interpersonal relationships through assistance in planning and implementation of educational, recreational, and volunteer activities.  The Community Builder also acts as a liaison between, and advocate for, the members and the community at large.

The cost of training is $650. There is an additional monthly charge of $65 per individual using the services of the Community Builder.  If you’re interested in family training for transition to a more independent living, contact Helayne Sherman at heartdoc18@gmail.com.
