20.  EDI: Beyond Ticking the Box
6 June 9.30am – 12.30pm
Richmond Methodist Church

Inequalities and exclusion in society exist in the voluntary sector as they do in any other sector. Trustees, volunteers, and staff within the voluntary sector may not always reflect the communities our organisations serve.

Volunteers, staff, and others involved in voluntary work may also experience discrimination, prejudice, and harassment because of who they are, and because of the groups and communities that they are associated with. Because of this, people are prevented from accessing opportunities, resources, and decision-making spaces equitably.

By becoming aware of the existing barriers that exclude people and by working towards removing them, voluntary organisations can become more effective at changing communities for the better.

21. Talking Trustee-ing with Debra
Tuesday 16 May, 17.00 – 18.00 online

Hang out with other trustees at this free event and share how you’re feeling, get tips on how to govern best in these difficult times and basically just offload some of your stress!

22. Online training opportunity to support awareness and skills working with refugees and asylum seekers

Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Network, in partnership with SOLACE, is providing online training to build a community of champions to support refugees and asylum seekers to access mental health services in our region.
The two self-guided e-courses take you step by step through the factors that affect the wellbeing and mental health of those who have been displaced from their country of origin. This understanding, combined with some practical advice will provide you with ideas for how to develop your own working practice to offer better wellbeing support to those individuals.

By completing course one, you'll have the resources you need to be a ‘champion’ within your organisation and influence others to make positive changes in how you work. The second course is intended for those who work in wellbeing or mental health settings. It offers resources and tools for managing many of the common difficulties experienced by those seeking asylum.

An introductory session will take place on Thursday 25 May, 12-1pm and will provide an opportunity for you to find out more about the online training. Join via the Teams Meeting link here. If you have any questions or cannot attend this session but are still interested in this training please contact heather.stonebank@nhs.net
