New Extrusion Applications in Commercial Vehicles

Commercial vehicles are specialized tools that are built with a certain application in mind. As such, the durability and maintenance are important considerations for material selection. Aluminum extrusions are a proven technology in this regard, having already been used in a variety of commercial vehicles. The diversity of vehicles that use aluminum extrusions validates the value proposition of extrusions in regard to lightweighting, corrosion resistance, maintenance, ease of integration, and structural efficiency.

Aluminum Extrusion EPDs and
the Push for Decarbonization

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are essentially an “environmental nutrition label” for a product. Recently, the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) updated its EPDs for the aluminum extrusion industry and conducted a sensitivity analysis of the results to highlight the carbon reduction potential of extrusions. This article provides an overview of EPDs along with noting the results of the recent sensitivity analysis.

Constellium to Offer Closed-Loop System for Renault

Constellium formed an agreement with Renault Group to establish a closed-loop recycling system for the Megane E-TECH electric SUV. Aluminum is the material of choice for the electrification of its automotive fleet because it is light weight and fully recyclable. 
Arconic Goes Private with Apollo Funds Acquisition

Arconic Corporation entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management, Inc. Upon completion of the transaction, the company’s shares will no longer trade on the New York Stock Exchange, and Arconic will become a private company. 
Porsche Partners with Hydro for Its Luxury Sports Cars

Porsche signed an agreement with Norsk Hydro to further reduce the carbon footprint of its luxury sports car models by using low-carbon aluminum and extrusions. In addition, the two companies will collaborate on an innovative value chain concept for battery materials and their recycling.
