Minnesota Annual Conference Love Offering
SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES / COLLECTING THROUGH MAY 30

Each year, churches in the Minnesota Annual Conference take a Love Offering for missions in conjunction with our Annual Conference Session. Bishop Lanette Plambeck invites congregations to pray about and participate in the Love Offering as an expression of our gratitude for God’s blessings in our lives. Our Love Offering this year will tangibly share God’s love with a hurting world by addressing the growing mental health needs in Minnesota. Make your donation in worship or online through the button below.

Thank You for Supporting the Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative
YOUR SUPPORT IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

As a result of your work and the efforts of so many other congregations and housing advocates, this week the Minnesota house and senate passed historic housing legislation. In addition to funding rental assistance as envisioned in the Bring It Home, MN campaign, this legislation funds the building of new affordable housing. And this legislation funds supportive services to help families remain in their homes, funds repairs needed to maintain existing affordable housing and to enhance fire safety, and provides down payment support for first-time homeowners in underserved groups.

The Lake Harriet Beacon Leadership Team wants to thank you for every postcard you signed, every email you sent, every phone call you made, and/or every visit you had with your state representatives and senators. Thank you for attending the Bring it Home, MN rallies in December, 2022 at Gloria Dei and on Jan. 11 and March 20, 2023 at the Capitol building.

There is so much to celebrate! This was a very “big lift” and it took so many hands and voices to make this legislation a reality. Thank you for believing that all our neighbors have a right to safe and stable housing. Thank you for not only praying for housing justice, but for taking action to make it happen.

June 1: The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare
Supporting Life Together's Mission Work
FROM MARGARET WALKER

I hope all is going well at Lake Harriet UMC! I wanted to reach out to share what I have been doing and to reconnect with the LHUMC community. In August, I moved to Boston to be part of Life Together, a branch of the Episcopal Service Corps. As part of the program, I am living in an intentional community and working at The Family Van mobile clinic, a public health nonprofit that provides education, screenings, and referrals in underserved communities. I have found immense growth and support through this program and their commitment to active and prayerful social change. I am so grateful to have been led here in part through my upbringing at Lake Harriet, and all those who were a part of my life there. I wrote a reflection for the newsletter that highlights more of my experience, feel free to share it with other members of the church if you would like! I am also happy to talk with you about what I have been up to either over the phone or when I come back to visit Minneapolis in the future.

How to Make A Donation One of the components of working here at Life Together involves raising funds for the next generation of fellows. I know that the church sometimes sponsors people in this way, so I wanted to reach out and see if LHUMC would be willing to donate $300 to my campaign. We accept online contributions through the button below. There is a space in the "additional information" section to add my name: "LT Fellow-Margaret Walker", and the designation to select is "Future Fellow Fundraising." You can also donate by sending a check to "The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts" with the Memo line "LT Fellow- Margaret Walker" to: Life Together Attn: Kelsey Rice Bogdan 138 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02111. Let me know if you need any more information or if any questions arise. If donations are not an option at this time, another way you can support our program is to direct our application page to any young people (ages 21-32) who you think would be interested in Life Together!
