Multiplexes are legal across Toronto

Thank you to all of you beautiful people in this beautiful city! On Wednesday, Toronto City Council voted to end exclusionary zoning, approving up to four units and four storeys across Toronto.

To everyone who attended one of the consultations, sent an email to their councillor, or talked to their friends about zoning: you helped make this happen.

It was a long debate, with a couple of nail-biting votes to refer the item back for - you guessed it - more consultation. However, multiplexes eventually passed 18-7. We know that some councillors were under a lot of pressure to maintain the status quo so, if you have any emails left in you, consider sending one thanking your favourite “in favour” councillor:

Final vote on PH3.16 Multiplex report

In favour: Bradford, Bravo, Carroll, Cheng, Colle, Fletcher, Malik, Mantas, Matlow, McKelvie, Moise, Morley, Myers, Nunziata, Pasternak, Perks, Saxe, Thompson

Opposed: Ainslie, Burnside, Crawford, Crisanti, Holyday, Perruzza, Robinson

Rest assured, we will be back to our usual Action Alerts and sporadic newsletters soon because there is still work to do. But, for today, please take a moment to celebrate that a little more is possible in Toronto today compared to the start of this week.

Gratefully,

Colleen Bailey
