In 1965, Sybil Gorby planted a few heirloom tomato seeds in her garden. Every year following, she would save a few seeds to plant the next growing season. She became known for her beautiful and delicious tomatoes. Her daughter said, “I don’t know what it is, but it's like magic.”

The apostle Paul knew the principles of harvesting. He wrote to the Galatian church, “Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others and God, will harvest a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life” (Galatians 6:7, 8).

Just as Sybil could harvest renowned tomatoes from seeds she knew would produce  good fruit, when we plant the seeds of God’s word, we reap an abundant harvest. One who is generous to others will himself be blessed. Peacemakers reap joy in their relationships. Those who forgive will themselves be forgiven much. Following God’s plan for your life will result in abundant life.

What kind of seed are you planting? What kind of harvest will they yield? When the Master Gardener looks at the fruit of your life and mine, what will he say?
