We believe that getting people outside is important work, and that the spaces we shape go on to shape us.

Today we are proud to share Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s new visual identity, which you'll be seeing on our materials, uniforms, and throughout our spaces. While it is difficult to summarize BBP in a single visual or set of words, what our team came back to again and again is that Buffalo Bayou and Houston are forever entwined.

As the non-profit organization stewarding this significant natural resource, BBP has the honor of creating public spaces that draw people together along (and across!) its banks, threading together different people, projects, programs, and perspectives that celebrate the vitality and resiliency of our city. We believe our new look reflects this vision.

While our look has changed, we remain steadfast in our mission. This month and the summer ahead, you can look for exciting programs like the ones below. We will also share progress updates on the area east of downtown where our Buffalo Bayou East Master Plan is actively unfolding.

See you on Buffalo Bayou!

Find your "Gulf Coast Soul" at Jazzy Sundays

Sunday, May 7
It’s Buffalo Bayou Park’s turn to host Jazzy Sundays, a free outdoor concert series in partnership with Emancipation Park and Discovery Green Conservancies. We’re kicking things off this weekend with The Suffers, a group that’s gained international acclaim for their signature mix of soul, funk, reggae, and hip hop — a sound they’ve dubbed “Gulf Coast Soul.” The Suffers will be joined by opening act Marium Echo. Bring your picnic blankets and lawn chairs, and enjoy an evening of music and fun on The Water Works lawn.

This series, continuing every Sunday in May, is made possible by the Kinder Foundation.

Pedal it Out this Month!

Did you know that May is National Bike Month? Be sure to mark your calendars for National Ride a Bike Day on May 7 and Bike to Work Day on May 19. Whether you ride alone or with a group, we encourage Houstonians and visitors to use the trails along Buffalo Bayou for commuting and recreation this month and throughout the year. To keep everyone on the trails safe, remember to always:
  • Keep off the asphalt footpaths in Buffalo Bayou Park and use concrete trails only.
  • Announce “passing on left” when trying to get around someone in front of you.
  • Look ahead and behind you before turning around on the trail.
  • Pull over to the right or completely off the trail when stopping for any reason.
  • Wear a helmet.
  • Watch your speed and always keep at least a three-foot distance from pedestrians.
You can always rent a bicycle from Bayou Bike Rentals at 105-B Sabine Street (next to our Visitor Center) or at any of the Houston BCycle stations in Buffalo Bayou Park.

Reflecting on Reimagining Urban Spaces:
Graffiti at Turkey Bend

This past Sunday, more than 400 Houstonians attended a rare public event at Turkey Bend and got a sneak peek of this former industrial site now owned by BBP that will eventually become a hub within Buffalo Bayou East. Six panelists discussed the successes of previous infrastructure reuse projects, and the importance of respecting and incorporating graffiti culture in the creation of community-driven spaces. While Turkey Bend is once again closed to the public, stay tuned for future discussions in the Reimagining Urban Spaces series, which will touch on plans for other Buffalo Bayou East destinations and cover a variety of topics in the fields of urban planning and landscape architecture.
