Our Vision Statement

Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish is a safe community of love, who believes in the power of the Holy Spirit to change lives, and forms disciples who bring people to Jesus.

As a disciple that belongs to our community I commit to grow by worshipping, learning, connecting, serving, giving and making disciples.

Fifth Sunday of Easter Year A

“The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”1 PETER 2:7

Every person has been given gifts from the Holy Spirit. These are called “charisms” and they are used to build God’s kingdom of earth. While many people are able to recognize their natural talents and abilities, they may be unsure of their charisms. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern their charisms and how God is calling them to use them. Remember - no gift is too small or insignificant in God’s salvation plan.

Join Our Lady of the Southern Cross Catholic Parish staff team and make a positive impact in our community! We are currently seeking two people to fill vital positions within our Parish. If you are passionate about your faith, serving others and would like to be part of a welcoming and supportive team, we invite you to apply for the following roles:

Parish Manager (24 hours per week)
In this leadership role, you will play a vital part in the smooth operation of our Parish. As the Parish Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of the office and the Parish, ensuring everything runs efficiently. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of our beautiful buildings and property. If you have strong organizational skills and a knack for multitasking, we would love to hear from you.

Evangelisation and Pastoral Associate (25 hours per week)
Are you passionate about spreading the joy of the Catholic faith? As an Evangelisation and Pastoral Associate, you will have the opportunity to create pathways of evangelisation in the Greater Springfield Region. Your role will involve strengthening existing ministry groups within the Parish and even forming new ones as needed. If you have a heart for community outreach and a desire to inspire others in their faith journey, we would love to have you on board.

Both positions offer flexible hours and the chance to work in a friendly and inclusive environment. We believe in the value of every individual and are committed to fostering a sense of belonging within our Parish community.

To find out more about these exciting opportunities, please reach out to Fr Baiyi Gong at pp.springfield@bne.catholic.net.au. Don't miss out on the chance to join Our Lady of the Southern Cross Catholic Parish in Springfield. Applications close on Sunday, May 28, 2023. We look forward to hearing from you!
COVID protocols for liturgical practices. We received a guideline from the Archdiocese that the communion from the chalice will be reintroduced during this Easter season. Our parish will start the practice this weekend. Please note that those unwell should refrain from the chalice or receiving communion on the tongue.
Please send a photo per family of an amazing mum in your life to olscphotos@gmail.com for our Mother’s Day Slide Show that will be shown at all Mass times on 14 May. Photos need to be in by Wednesday, 10 May.
We invite all Tiny Tots (Prep and Under) and Primary-Aged (Grades 1-6) children to join Matt and the Southern Cross Kids (SCK) Children's Liturgy team Sundays at 9am, during school term, for prayers and activities. The Liturgy will begin at the 9am Mass. Don't forget to sign in your child/ children using the QR code distributed at the entrance of the church. We look forward to seeing you this Sunday.

Due to growing numbers of children attending SCK this year, we are also looking for more helpers from our OLSC parish community, especially those parents/carers who have their children attend SCK, to join our Children's Ministry team and help serve in a meaningful way in breaking open the Word for our young ones growing in their faith. Please contact the parish office or Matthew Scott on 0421167898 for more information and to register your interest.

Every week Fr Baiyi invites us to learn and commit to memory a biblical quote from the Sunday’s Gospel reading. This is a beautiful way to get to know the Bible better and to share our faith with others.
📢 Reminder this Sunday, 7th May, Fr Baiyi is inviting parishioners who attend 7:30am mass (and those involved in St. Monica's Chapel in any way) to stay after mass for coffee and conversation. It is an opportunity for Fr Baiyi to get to know you better, to understand the ministry needs for this weekly mass and how the right support can be put in place. Fr Gabriel will be the celebrant at 9am Mass.

A VOCATION VIEW:
