Culture Day

Today in school students have dressed in outfits that celebrate Culture. It has been a fantastic day with a wide range of outfits and cultures to learn about. Today was an ideal example of where students have shown our character strength of Respect, beginning to appreciate how our culture and background shape our views and perspective of the world.

Notices from the Parents’ Association

Movie Night Tonight!
We’re delighted with the take-up for tonight’s Movie Night to see the latest Minions movie. Bubble tea has proved to be very popular. We’ll update you on profits as soon as we know.

Quiz Night
Our next fundraiser is on 7th July which will be a quiz night open to parents. More details to follow but one thing we really need help with on the build-up to the event are raffle prizes. Could you donate a prize? Are you a business that offer a service that could donate a voucher maybe? If so, please email us at pa@suttcold.bham.sch.uk

Parents Association Annual General Meeting
Ever wondered who we are, what we do, and how you can contribute? Well now is your chance! Join us for the AGM on 14th June. We’d love to share with you our plans and enthusiasm and get some fresh ideas! We really need some new blood-people with a new outlook on how we can fundraise. Timings, venue etc will follow in a further newsletter but please block out some time on the evening of 14th June and join us.

Volunteers
As you may have seen, we have struggled for volunteers for our recent events. We can’t do this alone, and we are a very small team of organisers who need people we can call upon to help when events are taking place. Please consider putting yourself forward as a volunteer by emailing us at pa@suttcold.bham.sch.uk It allows us to check in with you to see if you can help when an event is scheduled.

Finally, we’d like to wish all those girls about to sit A-levels or GCSEs good luck. We are thinking of you!

Careers Fair

On Thursday 6th July, we will be holding our Careers Fair in school where students have the opportunity to speak to employers and representatives from universities and other training institutions to discover more about a wide range of careers and opportunities.

If you or you know of anybody who would like to be involved in the event by representing a particular career or training provider at the event, please contact Mrs Lucas as soon as possible.

Preloved Uniform

Since the Preloved Uniform facility became available in early October 2022, we have sold over 177 items. The total raised now is £700. Students and the Planet have benefitted!

The online ordering system has been simplified so choosing your uniform has become easier. Paying and collection is 48 hours including a confirmation email. We have sold out of many items so, if you wish to donate any of your Preloved Uniform to increase our stock, please bring them to the Main Office.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Instrumental / Singing Lessons 2023-24

If you would like your child to start/continue having instrumental or singing lessons from September 2023 please complete this form and submit by Friday 12th May.

Further questions may appear depending on the answers you give to help us plan our instrumental order with Services for Education - Music Service. (We will try to meet late applications but cannot guarantee places beyond this date)

For the 2023-24 academic year, parents are asked to contribute £360 towards the cost of lessons for a guaranteed minimum of 28 lessons in the academic year. School will require a non-refundable deposit of £80 to be paid before we can make the order for you. Details of how to make this payment will be given as you complete the form. There is financial support available for families in receipt of certain state benefits and/or who qualify for pupil premium funding. Please do not let the financial contribution act as a barrier for requesting instrument lessons for your daughter, e.g. instrument lessons for students who qualify for free school meals will be fully funded by school.

Students are limited to one instrument and it is with the understanding that if a parent wishes their child to have private lessons this would be instead of and not in addition to school instrument lessons. Lessons take place within the school day and times are rotated where possible to avoid the same timetabled lessons being missed each week. Students are taught mostly in pairs, matched by ability / experience. Students having instrumental lessons in school are expected to attend their lesson every week, practise regularly at home and support the school’s ensembles by attending rehearsals and participating in musical events.

Please note that lessons last for the full academic year (until July 2024); it is not possible to stop lessons part way through the year. If you have any questions, please contact Mr Collet, Head of Music.

If you are under 25 and registered with a GP in Birmingham, you can receive support from Pause. We also provide support for parents and carers who are concerned about their child or young person’s wellbeing. If you are under 14 we require a parent/carer to complete the registration with you and support you to come to a session, however once you are here you can have space to speak on your own without your parent or carer.

E-Safety: 10 Tips for Stronger Passwords

According to a Google survey, more than half of us (52%, to be exact) routinely re-use the same passwords, with around one in ten employing a single password across all of their online accounts. What that means, of course, is that any hacker successfully cracking our password would find themselves with access to not simply one of our online accounts, but several (at least).

That, along with the fact that many people’s favoured passwords aren’t exactly impenetrable, makes it easier to see why some sources put the number of online accounts being broken into at around 100 per second. Yes, you read that right: 100 per second. To help give you some extra peace of mind about your digital data, our guide from National Online Safety has some tips on setting more secure passwords.
