Decolonizing Stigma

Tk̓emlúps is partnering with the Interior Health Authority and First Nations Health Authority to bring this workshop to the community. This is a free event for Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc band members and lunch will be provided. Come learn about harm reduction initiatives, get a naloxone kit and learn about helping yourself and your community.

SCFSA Workshop

We're excited to announce SCFSA's upcoming Ribbon Skirt and Vests Workshop happening on Tuesday, May 9th from 5:30pm – 8:00pm at MSG. Come learn about the beautiful tradition of ribbon skirts and vests, and create your very own. Dinner will be provided, so come hungry!

Indigenous Gang Presentation

On May 10 at 11:30am, Cpl. Alistair Peers from the Indigenous Policing Services will be hosting an Indigenous Gang Presentation at Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc. The presentation will cover various aspects of gangs, including what they are, how they recruit members, the roles within gangs, and signs of drug trafficking. This presentation is being organized by the Tk̓emlúps Rural RCMP and is open to all TteS Community Members.

Gangs have been a significant issue in Indigenous communities across Canada. The presentation by Cpl. Peers will help to increase awareness about gangs and their impact on Indigenous communities. It will also provide attendees with important information about how to recognize the signs of gang involvement and drug trafficking. The presentation is an excellent opportunity for community members to engage with law enforcement and learn more about how they can help to prevent gang activity in their community.

Reclaiming My Language

Did you grow up up hearing and understanding Secwepemctsin but don’t speak it? This 10-week course if for you! Registration deadline is May 24, 2023. For more information contact ethan.pincott@ttes.ca

Kindergarten Registrations for 2023-24 at Sk'elep School of Excellence are currently being accepted via email. Please call the school at 250-828-9777 to arrange for a registration package to be emailed to you. Copies of supporting documents, including birth certificate, proof of residence, personal health number/Care Card, and Status Card, will need to be submitted with the registration package. Registration will not be considered until all documents are received.

Preference for registrations will be given to TteS band members. Please have registration in by June 30th. We will contact parents in the summer to confirm registration.

BC Hydro Education

Attention all Tk̓emlúps post-secondary students! BC Hydro is currently offering scholarship and bursary opportunities to invest in the next generation of leaders like you. With a deadline of June 9, 2023, these scholarships and bursaries are available to students in degree, diploma, certificate, or technical/trades programs closely connected to careers at BC Hydro. Successful applicants can receive up to $5,000 for scholarships and $2,000 for bursaries, with the top overall applicant receiving the Randy Brant Memorial Award of $8,000. Elder’s Housing Presentation

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Chief and Council need the consent of the TteS members to designate land for lease for the purpose of developing and providing social and affordable housing for Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc membership and their families.

The Housing Department would appreciate the Elder’s insights and support on this project. This event would be an introduction meeting.

Ethno-Ornithology Course

Attention bird enthusiasts and nature lovers! Don't miss the opportunity to REGISTER for the Secwépemc Ethno-Ornithology Course. Starting on May 15th and running until June 27th, join us on Mondays from 9am - 12pm for an immersive learning experience. The course includes 5 birding excursions, both online and in-person options available. Expand your knowledge and appreciation of birds and their cultural significance with this unique course. Healing House Update

On March 12, 2023, Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc announced that we will receive $12.5 million in federal funding to build a new healing centre. The House of Healing aims to provide healing programs for those impacted by all Indian Residential Schools. It will be a safe space that offers trauma-informed programs to support individuals and their families in their spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical healing journey.

Calling our People Home

On May 18, 2023, from 11 am – 4 pm Bonaparte First Nation will be hosting their first annual event at Riverside Park in Kamloops in which we bring our Nation’s communities and partners together in solidarity to provide an opportunity for community members to connect with their respective home communities.

Arrival of the Cup Ceremony

Join us on Thursday, May 25th at the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Powwow Arbour for the 2023 Arrival of the Cup ceremony. It's the perfect way to kick off the Memorial Cup celebrations just a day before the puck drops!

Everyone is welcome to join in the excitement of the arrival ceremony. The event will feature a welcome and prayer by Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, followed by opening remarks and introductions of the Kamloops Blazers and the three Regional League Champions. Plus, you'll get an exclusive first look at the Blazers' theme jersey for the tournament's opening night.

Sunday Mass

Great news for the members of the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc community who attend church. Bishop Joseph Nguyen has announced that Sunday mass services will be resuming on the following dates:

  • May 7 at 1pm
  • June 4 at 1pm
  • July 2 at 1pm
  • August at 1pm

We can't wait to come together again and worship in-person. See you all there!

Learn to Drive

Attention TTeS Band members and Community Members! Are you looking to get your driver's license? Join our Pathways to Driving program and prepare for your Learner's exam!

Our classes will be held once a week for six weeks at the White Tech Building, and are designed to help you study and prepare for your exam. We'll even book your exam for you!

Spring Family Challenge

Take care of one another — Calling all TteS Families! Spring Family Challenge

A six week challenge to promote family fun! 20 spots available for families with children under 19 years old, living in the home.

The challenge weeks:

  1. Draw a medicine wheel, talk about what the wheel represents to your family
  2. Gather rocks to paint, write positive words, paint flowers, paint to use in a garden, animals, names
  3. Purchase healthy snacks, "NO COOKING', pepperoni, cheese, vegetables, crackers, fruit, enjoy quality time with no cooking, children set-up the buffet
  4. Bird watching
  5. Assemble a craft together — family fun
  6. Enjoy out doors, potato sack race, three legged race, egg on spoon rate

Upload your family pictures from each weekly task to the Knucwtens Kwseltkten Facebook page with words #FAMChallenge by the end of each week! $50 gift card for participants that complete the six week challenge. Those who place in the grand prize challenge do not receive the $50 participant gift card. Starts May 9th! Last day for submission June 15th at 3:30pm.

Ball Hockey Tournament

2023 Memorial Cup Ball Hockey Tournament presented by Morfco. Kamloops is excited to unveil new portable ball hockey mini rinks for the community at the new parking lot on the 300 block of Seymour Street. (Old Daily News Parking Lot) Enter as a team or an individual and join us for a weekend of action-packed ball hockey games and activities for youth ages 5-13 of all skill levels. Registration includes a Memorial Cup jersey, along with some exciting souvenirs. Teams will be guaranteed at least four games, format to be determined based on the number of registrants. All games will be 3-on-3 plus goaltenders and one-player substitution. Players are expected to share equal playing time. Games will be approximately 20-25 minutes of fast-paced hockey on a smaller rink (25’ x 50’). Please register for the waitlist if your division is full! There is flexibility depending on the number of registrations across divisions that may allow additional spots to be opened up.

Need Paper Copies?

To minimize our ecological footprint, we will only be sending hard copies of our GBM minutes, presentations, annual reports, etc. to band members who specifically ask for them. To request paper copies to be mailed to you, please use the link below to fill out the form. As usual, digital copies will still be sent via email and accessible for download in the members-only section of our website.

Please be aware that you will only need to complete the HARD COPY sign-up process once. Once you have signed up, you will receive them via mail until you decide to cancel.

Free Lock Boxes

A lock box program is being run for community members to obtain a free lock box for storing their medications, cannabis, drugs, or paraphernalia. Interested individuals can request a lock box by contacting Rachel at 250-320-4327 or emailing her at rachel.kilback@ttes.ca. The program is free and Rachel will deliver the lock box upon request. For any inquiries or concerns, please contact Rachel directly.

National Gathering of Elders 2023

Elders from all Indigenous groups (First Nation, Metis, and Inuit) from across Canada are gathering to celebrate the Indigenous cultures of Canada and having the opportunity to discuss key topics like reconciliation, MMIWGM2S, language and culture, and other topics that affect Indigenous people of Canada. The gathering will take place at the Edmonton Expo Center (Edmonton AB) October 30 - November 2, 2023.
