Be Part of Black Business Month & Join the Black Business Owner Directory!
A group of Black business owners, plus the MPBHBA and 95th Street Business Association, have been meeting at AndySunflower Cafe to discuss ways we can collaborate and connect. The conversations have resulted in a plan to create a Black business directory, as well as to partner for Black Business Month in August. Black business owners, please fill out the form if you would like to be a part of either initiative.

Let Us Promote Your Father’s Day Specials
Do you have a specialty service, product, or gift idea that dads would love? The MPBHBA is planning a shop local campaign for Father’s Day! Send us your Father’s Day specials by May 21, and we’ll include them in our marketing campaign that will include print advertising and a poster distributed at participating businesses. Example: Buy Dad his favorite 4-packs from Open Outcry!

DCASE Application Due May 19
Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) is now accepting idea submissions for the 2023 Neighborhood Access Program. This program provides grants for all types of neighborhood-based arts and culture activities taking place in Chicago between October 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024.
Individuals, nonprofit organizations, and low-profit limited liability companies may apply. The deadline to submit an idea is Friday, May 19th at 5pm Central.

103rd Street Summer Festival Seeks Sponsors
The 103rd Street businesses are hosting a Summer Soirée on Saturday, July 29, to showcase the commercial district near the 103rd Street Metra Station and unique offerings in our neighborhood. The free community event will feature local musicians and food vendors, offering a place for them to share their talents.
Local businesses and individuals are invited to sponsor the Summer Soirée and help support the cost of entertainment and kids’ activities. Your sponsorship will ease the financial burden of the small business owners who are spending time to plan the event. In return, sponsors will be recognized in event publicity. The MPBHBA has publicized past events in the Beverly Review, The Villager, as well as on social media.

Neighborhood Pride Picnic Seeks Sponsors
In honor of LGBT Pride Month in June, our community is planning its first neighborhood Pride Picnic. The celebration is scheduled for Sunday, June 4, from noon to 3 pm at the Edna White Garden, 1812 W. Monterey Ave. The planning committee is seeking donations for food and entertainment. Sponsors will be recognized at the event and in all marketing communications.

Back to Business Grant Deadline is May 10
The next round of the Back to Business Grant Program prioritizes restaurants, hotels, and creative arts businesses in Illinois. The State of Illinois has allocated $175 million as part of their efforts to support ongoing recovery in hard-hit industries. The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and NCRC CDF.
Eligibility
- Business owned and operated in Illinois
- Must have begun operations prior to March 12, 2020 and maintain current active operations
- Must fall within industry requirements:
- Restaurant, tavern, brewpub, tasting room, taproom, caterer, brewery, microbrewery, winery, distillery, food truck, or street vendor
- Hotel, inn, motel, tourist home or court, lodging house, rooming house, retreat center, conference center, or hunting lodge
- Performing or presenting arts, theater, museum, cultural heritage organization, or arts education

Polsky Exchange Capital Series - LISC Chicago

Financial forecasting involves predicting a company’s financial future by examining historical business information and incorporating relevant assumptions about the future environment the company will compete in. By having a financial forecast available, the business leader can better position the business to navigate good times and bad. In this workshop, you will learn several techniques for building a financial forecast for your business.
