Spain Visa Update from Forum President & CEO

The Embassy of Spain in the United States continues to work with their consulates to align visa requirements and to partner with NAFSA, APUNE, and The Forum to share information. Alignment is an ongoing process and there are, and may continue to be, differences in the policies and requirements for visa applications at different consulates. In particular, the consulate in Washington, D.C. encourages batch processing whenever feasible, by designates who have Power of Attorney to submit applications and retrieve the passports and visas.

Spain has recently contracted with BLS to manage visa applications for study abroad. Earlier this week, we learned that some consulates will begin transitioning visa applications to BLS as soon as the end of this month, but no additional information is available at this time. We will share additional details about this transition as soon as they become available.
