Dear Centennial Crew,

I am excited to share that our Innovation Plan passed our staff vote last week (here’s a shorter, cuter version)! Our election administrator noted that it was the first time she’s seen 100% staff participation, all bargaining groups represented, and a 100% yes vote -- hooray! We’re really proud of this plan that DCTA reps and I wrote, and we’re excited for its next steps. The DPS Board will vote on the plan on June 8th. Crew News will be out for the summer by then, but I believe DPS will notify everyone about the vote in a DPS newsletter. Keep an eye out!

In the past, families have been able to take home DPS chromebooks for summer use. There is a NEW policy in place this year, and all students must turn chromebooks into Centennial. If you would like more information or if you would like access to a DPS chromebook over the summer, please see this letter for important details.

I can’t wait to see everyone at our annual Carnival tomorrow! This event is 100% free this year, thanks to your kind donations and support through PTA. It’s going to be a blast. Please make sure to RSVP.

Lastly, there are two important surveys that are/will be in your inbox:

  • The DPS Tu Voz survey closes on Sunday, May 14. We value your feedback and use it in our planning. Please take this important survey! You will have received it via email from DPS Central Office.

  • DPS Safety Plan -- DPS is seeking feedback on their safety plan. There are multiple ways to give feedback, from phonecall town halls to an interactive web survey that closes May 26. Please see this website for more details.

See you at the carnival tomorrow!

Emily

COLOR RUN
We are so happy the Centennial Crew had such a great time at the Color Run this year! Curious about where the idea came from?  Katie and Shari collaborated to bring joy, health and the arts together.  We would like to acknowledge the Hindu festival of Holi that this beautiful expression of color came from and that inspired several awesome events, including Disney’s World of Color, Paint Parties, Mud Runs, and festivals throughout the world.  For us, the goal was to create an environment that was all about fun, health and happiness, showing our crew what they can achieve.  Thank you for all of the volunteers that helped to make this day such an overwhelming success!  We couldn't have done it without you!!!

Please continue to send in your pledge forms and money.
From the Library....

The school year is coming to an end and it is time to find all of those missing library books!

All library books should be returned to  Centennial's library by Friday, May 19th.
I will send home notices for all missing books starting the week of 5/22.

Let me know if you have any questions.

AAPI One Book, One Centennial:
All classroom teachers now have the book, What I See: Anti-Asian Racism from the Eyes of a Child, written by Christine Leung.  The rise in xenophobia and anti-Asian hate incidents can be confusing for kids. This book is an easy-to-follow guide for children to reflect, ask questions, and learn more about this important topic.  Families, we encourage you to ask your child(ren) about the book, and have a family conversation about it.  The book is available on Amazon.
