The Defender: Parents Appreciate Classroom Teachers, Not Unions

American Federation of Teachers union president Randi Weingarten did everything in her power to spread fear and prolong school closures. When Weingarten appeared before the U.S. House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in April, she attempted to rewrite history by claiming that she wanted schools open and tried to open them “safely.” Parents are often fond of their children’s classroom teachers, but they know that teachers union leaders harmed students by keeping schools closed for far too long.
