Point Food Co-Op is working to establish a grocery store or food Co-Op in Mineral Point.  If you are interested in being part of the group, please contact Dean Dickel at pointfoodcoop@gmail.com  The Co-Op has been incorporated z7 they are nearly ready to adopt bylaws.  There is a grant application pending to help pay for a preliminary feasibility study & hope to have the study completed by the end of the summer.  The plan is to have the project funded by private investors who would lease the site to the co-op with an option to buy in the future. Due to a scarcity of potential sites, the steering committee is investigating renovation of the old city garage on Fountain St. They are talking with potential partners who will provide some of the essential products, including meat, produce, dairy & bread.  Their goal is to source locally grown or produced food wherever possible, including both organic and non-organic products. They are working with several people including Farmers Market vendors. They are investigating a line of basic hardware.  The committee is anticipating a membership/fundraising effort starting later this summer to build a capital fund for start-up costs.  FMI, to volunteer or help in any way, please contact Dick at the above email.  He & his group have been working very hard on this project to bring a local grocery store back to Mineral Point.
