Ed Moss
The Space to Thrive

Hi,

I hope you are well. It has been a while, since I have been so focused on delivering projects. That question - how are things? - something that is so rarely asked of leaders, and even rarer, the opportunity to say how you are really feeling.

For sure, things are different now than they were when I last wrote in March 2021. Hybrid working has become the norm and there is more demand for what you offer than before. Balancing that demand with staff wellbeing has quickly risen to the top of many people's lists. How are things? What is your experience right now?

For me, it's the time of year I am actively putting myself out there to offer workshops, coaching and training around a more flexible and inclusive way of leading. So if you think your podcast, conference, event network, team, or you might benefit, I'd love to explore that.

What do you need help with?

I was recently at a networking event and was asked this question. It felt so liberating to share with one person I was looking for a non-exec role a few days month, and with someone else to share I am looking to help leaders who want to improve their productivity and wellbeing.

I'd love the opportunity to ask you this question.

Invitation to you! Reply to this email and I'll see what I can do to help.

After all, we are all humans first, and everyone on my mailing list (all 1,650) are all doing their best to make the world a better place.

I recently made engaging with me via my website much easier and more personal - why not give it a try?

Learning to Thrive Notes

Week 19 - 2023
I have been coming to this lake in the Pennines near where I live each week over the winter for a swim and let the water work it's magic.

🌹Flowering moments of joy

Aside from Lake swimming, in a work context, preparing a report (not usually in this category for me) for one of my clients CAF, where I have been providing outsourced leadership development for their funding programme for over 100 organisations. Looking through the feedback from participants about the difference it had made to them and starting to calculate the return on investment for that programme to participants has been a real beaming moment.

I'd love to be introduced to any funders/investors who might like to boost the impact of their cash investment through the power of connecting investees to grow and learn together and leave the hassle of organising that to someone else

🌵Prickle / Thorny moments

Working remotely has often been a challenge for me regarding morale and energy management, despite having been self-employed for 8 years now. around 18 months ago I started holding virtual co-working spaces to help provide participants with accountability with a typical Ed flourish - compassion and a focus on wellbeing. If you also find it tough to get your work done - back to back meetings, or the isolation of remote working - why not give it a go. I am offering 1 month free to give you a chance to try it out.

🌿New buds & growth moments

I recently qualified as a massage therapist after 15 months of study. Now some may ask, what has that got to do with leadership development? Well, as it turns out, a heck of a lot. What we are discovering through neuroscience is that we perform much better in leadership roles, leading from our highest values, when we are calm and have low levels of stress. Persistent stress is not only bad for your health but the health of your team. Equally, demonstrating you are looking after yourself encourages this in our teams. We must end the 'martyr' culture in our workplaces that says because the people and planet we are trying to help are suffering, we must work and burn ourselves at all costs. It just doesn't help to burnout ourselves. So not only am I now offering massage to leaders in Greater Manchester and the surrounding area, but I am also offering Desk Massage and Massage Days for teams to lower that cortisol and give us a joyous reason to be in the office. Relaxed people find it easier to connect.  Get in touch if you are interested in either a massage for you or developing the Team Massage offer with me in it's early stages.

What learning opportunities are coming up?

I recently launched a membership with around 150 members. I'll be sharing about it soon, but if you are curious in a couple of the events, why not check them out below.
